There is no npc script command for it,
i have written like 10 lines to load the
bmp and to output a 3d box with the
bmp as texture and a light. It's quite
simple to do it and it's fast
(drawing transparent images with DirectDraw
is quite slow, but with Direct3D you can draw
several big transparent images and still get
150 fps on my P300@450).
It would be interesting what gfx cards people
have, but I fear like 50% have cards that are too
old or cannot 3D or are quite limited (like older
voodoos). If we would do everything / most
stuff with direct3d (or opengl) it would give us
more possibilities and it would be much faster,
on the other hand many people couldn't play then.
About Graal3D: The main problem for stopping it
was that there were not good tools for making nice
player models and npcs and stuff (yes there are
editors like milkshape3d but it's not really easy to use
it and make nice animations). Don't know if that has
changed yet.
It might be better if we don't care so much about the
technique, but make the game better, like doing
good fighting and such stuff, that is what the plan of
Graal2002 is. Nice (3D-)gfx is good, but after some
time you don't really care about the gfx anyway,
then you see the game more like a help for
'opening the phantasy'
