Tyhm, I used to have the same confusion, because I heard the same thing! Now I've verified that a quarterstaff is actually the term coined by europeans for a long staff used for fenving. Startling, ey? I think a weapon less than the length of a person is a striking staff until it is short enough to be wielded in one hand, in which case it is a cudgel, "simple" mace, or shillelagh, if it has a large knob for a head. |
