I think the problem with this is just the general mindset of the player-base.
The hierarchy of PKers (and more explicitly; sparrers) is all but set in stone. Most players know who they can beat, and who they will lose to. At that point.. it doesn't matter if the rating is hidden or effect-less, most players will still refuse to spar in the unranked arena if they know they can't beat someone.
I personally trust myself enough to know I have a chance at beating anyone and have done so at one point or another. But 90% of Erians are (or act like) children on a daily basis.
