This is kind of late to the conversation, but considering the problem still exists, I thought I'd share something. The problem is absolutely not Windows. Things change, and generally change for a good reason.

RC2 uses an utterly OBNOXIOUS amount of garbage to run. It's no wonder it has problems. http://www.pango.org/ is the primary culprit. Why this is being used, I don't know. I'd imagine it's for cross-platform reasons, although I don't think there's ever been an external RC for anything but Windows anyway... (Edit: I was told there actually is, so that definitely explains the libraries.)

Regardless, before blaming Microsoft, you might want to take some time to understand the actual problem. Also, no, I don't have a way to fix it, nor have I cared to try because there are other versions of RC2 that do still work.
