Spell animations are what usually takes up so much time. But they do provide you with an early warning that indicates what kind of spell someone is about to throw your direction. So I don't think they should be removed.
If I recall correctly, casting time was added to wands because certain spells have short or non-existent spell animations. This allowed you to spam spells like magic bullet so rapidly that it just came down to whoever would dish them out first. It made fights really boring, and totally unfair for melee players.
However, because casting times were added to wands instead of to spells that needed them, the duration of a cast is now the sum of both casting time and animation time. |
