Not true. they had less capabilities, but they also had one huge advantage: players who are not staff were able to create their own levels with the offline editor and submit them to the server.
with gs1, and without the npc server, you could have uploaded the old levels and had a prepared server right away, which you could improve without getting of the old stuff.
also, the current version of graal feels awfully heavy and bloated in comparison to the older versions.
