I always find it easier to grab 1 square of tile then hold down the mouse button so the tile will apply whenever i move the mouse and just sketch out a rough shape of how you want to the grass/path or whatever to look like then fill in the edges. Anyway, it's a lot quicker and looks a lot better than doing it from imagination.
