Unless you're in an area with only one ISP then they will go to fairly great lengths to retain you as a customer. Every time my contract runs out I ask what they can do for me. Sometimes I get a bump up to the next data plan for free (120GB/month instead of 80GB/month), 3 months free (essentially the same as a 25% discount), or a free new wireless modem/router.
Good tip.

Nowadays cell-phone companies like to offer those USB-Internet Sticks that can be added to your plan. I imagine something like that could tide you over between your relocations as well.
