I think what would make most sense is for GDT management to coordinate with servers that need help and set up a number of projects that GDT members can do... documentation and tutorials could be one of these projects. Then as a GDT member you would simply need to always be assigned to and actively working on 1 or 2 projects.
This way individual members wouldn't need to ask around everywhere for work, and it would also serve as a way to make sure everyone is actually doing useful stuff.
