Human life was lost in both circumstances. I tend to not like the "this guy was more important than this guy". Certain people do have a more
apparent impact on society, but each human being has an impact - seen or unseen by the public eye.
A death is a death. And we all meet the same end. It's tragedy regardless who dies.
And I've always thought of Michael Jackson as more of a performer than an artist/creative force. I could be wrong. Did he write all of his own material? (I'm not sure, I never was really into Michael Jackons' works.)
