Playing mage is hard-mode, fact.

Get poisoned and you eat 4 weaponmagic attacks that all hit for 50-80.

Playing mage is far from getting magic bullets off, it's more like dodging that nasty berserker with the bigass sword and hoping the damage you do will outdo his insane health regen.

EDIT: and the average mage has around 3.0 speed. The average melee has around 5.0 speed. And mages don't poison but melee does.
