I had this problem when logging on some servers on Vista as well, changing to OpenGL mode fixed that though.

Also a problem I had. Fixed it by using nVidia's control panel to disable
everything (couldn't/haven't be/been bothered to experiment to see what was causing it) for Graal.exe in the advanced options for graphics.
