unless you want to do any npc scripting in the level editor offline ... then it works just fine where gs2 forces you to purchase an account to use it as gs2 only works online.
It's like saying cobol shouldn't be used anymore ... it still works and can do many things, but there are newer ways of doing things that others prefer.
it's not a matter of should and shouldn't, gs1 and gs2 both work - therefore it is a matter of personal preference.
