If you're going to have a planet in darkness, you can't have an option to disable it as the darkness is supposed to be a handicap. If you don't like the idea of playing in darkness, why play it?

It's different when it's a cosmetic effect or such, like a little snow or rain... but this is clearly meant to be a gameplay factor, not a cosmetic thing.
