I can't do the count but it looks like it has more polygons than even the head.

Also, Robin is right... low poly means nothing unless you have good textures to go along with it. I wish I could post but pixelation has a few posts with low poly stuff that even makes a simple cube look nice because of the quality of the textures. You should use stuff catered for your models, it'll probably look a ton better.
I think it's safe to assume the work which Galdor has done here was for entertainment purposes, and the novelty of turning 2D sprites into 3D objects.
