As stated, the more mature player base, should not be rejected to see what someone says, because kids play. This would be a simple solution, and also, would help maintain a more efficient Word Filter (Allowing everyone to submit things in that they see to be vulgar, and such for the children playing), and since it would be global, it would allow everyone to have a decent filter on their servers.
And I ask why do you feel it is pointless? Because you see no reason why someone would want to see what they say? Or is it because you think this will fall-back and create trouble? (Would be default checked, for liability issues)
