If it has a gs2 version of the command, it is no less efficient than with (findimg(201)) or findimg(201). In the end, it's also alot quicker script wise to create an image using showimg(). If I did showimg 201, blah.png, this.x, this.y then maybe your point would be valid. The fact that it was available in gs1 doesn't mean it was left for compatibility or any less efficient.
showimg(int, str, float, float) - returns object <- wowzor! returns an object!
