The account name is the internal name which is used to save your stats, the community name is the actual name displayed to the player. Before the community name was identical to the account name, but now new accounts get a name with a number and people can choose their community name later. The use of community names makes the account signup simplier, trial accounts are not blocking account names anymore (we will probably remove old trial accounts sometime soon), and it might be even possible in the future to change the community name.
