The advantage with OpenGL is that it isn't a crappy API which is rewritten each year, and is much more reliable (if supported by the graphics card).
If there are gradiency problems then it is using 16 bit color resolution, that should look the same in DirectX and OpenGL though. Do you mean OpenGL in fullscreen has gradiency problems?

I never use Fullscreen.
I may have found the problem, I havn't updated my GFX drivers in ages so I plan to do that soon.
More to the point of the thread, The GuiPlayerView doesn't work even with OpenGL on :[
