I thought the magic system implement was fantastic, especially since with just a click you could switch to the old manual target system.
Magic is always powerful, but since you could build up any skill tree you could make your character a badass mofo at around level 20-30.
What I think is the most common misconception with Graal Kingdoms is the class restrictions. There are none. You could build up any tree and build up any skill and have as much magic as you want.
Automatically people will say "No, that's not true, you can't have any skill and you can't have whatever you want."
Look at me probably one of the protaganist players on Kingdoms and I have never past level fifty. Morgan played for two weeks and got to level 65. Another player Used scrolls to up his mental and used alchemy to level himself up to 110 in two days. My other character leveled his wisdom tree from 1/0 to 18 in the span of three hours with Balor.
The truth is you can level up any skill and up any tree and up any type of magic that you want to.
I really don't want a good idea like this to be avoided because it seems like it will be hard. Half of the players don't even know what the personality tree is for, the other half of the players don't even know how to use the mountaineer skill.
I know I know, it sounds like a complaint but for those that look for it can see a game that really shines. A lot of things go VERY unused that should be more active (player houses having stoves and multiple floors etc). If you disable particle effects and use the old system you have it back to the old way while not sacrificing the new.
I have to say that was a genius move on stefans/bjorns part (i dont know who actually wrote it) making the magic system have both but I don't see why the sword system implementation should be any worse. In fact I think it would be a lot of fun. I certainly guarantee you will see a lot of arena activity.
The magic system is a perfect example of taking an old script, turning it around and making it freakin' awesome. If an Ice Flame sword is going to just sit around in a chest in someones house then it is useless.
In fact that kind of sets up another bowling pin, The resistance menu items. If I could use fear and blinding damage and you have a resist to blinding but not fear then I could take/give fear damage. It would most certainly give me an excuse to wear my Ring of Thunder or Ring of Fire in the arena rather than the over-used Ring of Theives that everyone has. |
