I was just thinking about how to do it.

Lets say this is a normal GMAP:

1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9

I know it's possible to linke 3 to 1 and 9, and so on and so forth.

But what if you added an extra ring of levels arround the main gmap that looked like what would be on the other side? Like this:
9 7 8 9 7
3 1 2 3 1
6 4 5 6 4
9 7 8 9 7
3 1 2 3 1

The inner ring of gmap would just link to itself while the outter ring would just be there to look like the other side and give the illusion that you just wrapped arround. Would that work?
