This could also be used as a way to see if people are active on RC or idling. It would be better to have some kind of indication than to have to go 'Malinko, are you there?' and if not, disconnect you only to have you log back on three seconds later cusses a flyin' because you were working on a script for three hours and didn't press the 'send' button.
