I think the idea is that the client is only creating one IRC "connection". If Stefan were to add a way to find the account name from the nickname, then that would probably be more ideal.

Edit: Also, it would not be a good idea to stop the F8 window from using the IRC stuff, because it would stop the serverlist, events stuff and probably other things from working.
