I assume all of you with these delay problems either live in the USA, or the people you're fighting against (that is, sparring or PKing) live in the USA. I've found that distance seems to be affecting the lag between you and the server. I've suggested a time or two that Graal should have a USA server/mirror, though I get the impression that anyone in charge is really seeing delay/lag as a problem some reason. Graal is a real-time fighting game, so why not have a server that delivers to "everyone" (or rather, everyone outside the UK) in real time instead of, say, 150-300ms late?

With more and more people getting firewalls and cable connections with routers, not everyone can use UDP anymore, and usually the delay between two people (if they both have broadband) without UDP on (UDP checked) is the time it takes to reach the server and back. However, if both people have UDP unchecked, there is no lag unless one of you really does have a slow connection.

Matman58 said he gets 20ms ping on CS, but he gets 150ms on Graal -- it sounds like he lives in the USA, and if so, we're seeing typical results from someone in the USA to Graal - which I'm pretty sure is located in the UK. Or maybe it's in France?

So in short, the answer is you're likely not the person lagging, it's just the server isn't sending data as fast over a long distance compared to a short distance -- and what a difference in ping that is (UK people get 20-30ms ping, USA people get 115-250+ms).

As for the cap, virtually everyone would be getting kicked off constantly for having a constant high ping, not because they're lagging, but because the server is ("lagging") getting their data late. N-Pulse was having a vote to kick people "that lag" out of the spar tournaments - not the best kind of thing to vote on when the server (distance factor) itself is the cause. Likewise with the cap, everybody would be getting kicked out. Before anything like this gets considered, Graal would need a server that doesn't limit our connection to it's own.
