For example, I'm a filthy student - so I can't afford very much. Now if I wanted one of these super cool items, and didn't have the money... I might have the approximate value of the item in gear, or diamonds.

This is what I was trying to get at. Why should the kid with his daddy's credit card and a 2,000 dollar limit get super leet gear that no one else can have? It just sort of defeats the purpose of the game..."I don't have to play for 1,000 hours to build up some really nice gear and a good diamond bank account, I just have to shell out an extra 25 bucks and I'll be the coolest kid on the block!"
