Well, the problem with the player's chat text disappearing appears to be isolated from the problem with showtexts disappearing (like the chat bar text).
We know it's a clientside problem because it doesn't happen to everybody at once.
It seems to happen to me when I exit the map or weapons list.
My educated guess for the overall font scrambling is that it occurs when you're pressing a key on the keyboard. The chat bar text scrambling ALWAYS occured to me when I pressed a key on the keyboard.
It's not usually related to the character being typed, but rather how many characters you typed before that character. When I backspaced it went to normal, when I typed another character it scrambled again. It's the same case for the chat bar text disappearing.
That's all I really know.
