While it is great when a manager lends his hand in the development process, that isn't his job. The job of a manager is to basically oversee that the work is being done and to make sure his staff aren't being a bunch of douchebags to the players. While I agree with your feelings reguarding someone having the power to remove you (despite you putting in loads of work) you have to remember how it is in the real world. Imagine the manager as a CEO and you are but a lowly mailroom clerk. You do all the work yet he can still fire you.
