It is an error in spelling, yes, but not an error in meaning. However, you are erroneously using the meaning of "misuse," confusing it with "overuse."

The area and thought of placement are irrelevant. The tiles were used correctly in the latter example. They may not look good, but that is opinion, not fact.

Closing statement. I strongly advise you open a dictionary look up the meanings of both misuse and overuse. As much as you seen to not want to admitit, you have been getting it wrong.
