Poll: 45° rotations.

Hoy, fellow graphic artists from all over the Graal Community !

Well, that question came up to my mind.
Mainly for those who frequently making swords or weapons needing 45° rotation, how do you actually do that ?

I myself use paint.NET
After I've done what I want on my weapon, and when I'm satisfyed enough, I copy-paste it in paint.NET and actually have 4 steps. Might be a long process, but it's how I get quite perfect 45° rotations.

Step1: I only keep the shape (outlines) of the sword, paste it in p.net and rotate it manually to 45°
Step2: I take the clean sword again, and now only keep the texturing inside.
Then I paste it in p.net and rotate it aswell.
Step3: I look at both results, try to mix them in while looking at the clean sword.
Step4: Then play around with pixels, can take quite a lot of time if I'm tired =<, 'till I get a nice result.

So, how do you process to rotate your pixels ?

In photoshop I select the mode 'preserve hard edges' and rotate it, receiving the end result of the rotated weapon/object that I only have to clean for ~5-10 mins :o

image.rotation = pi/4;

Do that even get you a perfect result?
if so, unfair

I make an entirely new image, a lot of work, but sometimes ends up with something I can appreciate more.

Manually.

In photoshop I press CTRL+T.
I then hold shift and rotate 45 degrees.
I then save.

ProMotion and Graphics Gale both have rotation effects that work quite nicely. I only have to spend a few minutes fixing up the rotated pixels to not look jagged-ish.

Redraw, looking at original as reference.

MS Paint:

1. Create a copy of the sprite, still on the same canvas though.
2. Enlarge the copy to 140% (using both horizontal and vertical stretching at the same time in the stretch & skew menu), so it has the correct size in the end.
3. Apply and reselect. Open the stretch & skew menu again and skew horizontally by 45 degrees. Apply.
4. Reselect and open up the menu again and skew vertically by -26 degrees (we separate these two steps since it usually gives better results). Apply.
5. Reselect one last time, open up the menu once again and stretch horizontally to 50%.
6. Clean up.

This method worth it, I got a really nice result actually :O

I use regular paint and do it normally, that's why when I made a good horizontal/vertical image I kill myself because I can never do it manually without screwing up, so i stick with easy images.
