Card Game?
As most of you know, Classic's launch of it's long awaited card game was pretty much an epic failure. While the idea was solid, a lot of technical details prevented the game from being successful after a week or so.
As of right now the card game can't be used obviously, and as far as I know DC (pretty much the only person who knows the scripts,) isn't around much to keep working on them. But I for one love card games in general, and I really had fun testing + playing it. I know there were a lot of problems with the released version, but I for one would like to see the card game return if these problems were corrected. So, if you actually played Classic's card game, what are your thoughts on a possible revival and what are your thoughts on improvements? My ideas include:
Obviously these changes would cover some of the major flaws I personally found with the released version, but feel free to discuss anything you think would help. (BTW keep this free of "card game failed because of *insert name*" comments. The card game failed for a variety of reasons, not because of specific people.) |
As far as I am aware, the card game was scripted in a peculiar way that only DC can work with, and DC does not want to work for Classic atm (specific reasons entailed elsewhere). So pretty much, the bottom of the ladder starts with if DC will come back or not before we can start hoping for improvements.
As for the card game, I always disliked it's procedures. I agree with better starter packs and all, with the deck rating and guaranteed cards in boosters. I would really hope for boosters to be worth gc tickets as well, or possibly awarded as a prize of a GC event, in addition to getting cardpoints by winning games. The whole not being worth card points for 15 minutes was pretty stupid though used to counter laming. And people lamed anyways fighting their other accounts every so often. With GC tickets, it might not be as lameable if it the ticket balance can be kept in equilibrium. Just a simple idea for if and when the card game returns if and when Classic comes back. |
card game was never good just delete it
|
Bigger things to worry about, no?
|
Why are you guys throwing around ideas that involve stupid things that only people already on Classic cared about, and not discussing how soon CTF is going to brought back?
|
Better starting desk would be nice.
|
best improvement would be to have a ranger card
|
kevin azite card
resets opponent's deck |
Kevin Azite card, takes up a 4 card block
|
Tig card, make every other card in DarkCloud's deck angry.
I have never played Classic's card game, but I imagine a graal-related card game, if done correctly, could be really awesome. ^^ |
I like every games with card

Played this card game, was fun.
But it shouldn't be on priority. |
I think I mastered the card game since I was like #1
|
Would be nice if the power to purchase cards didn't depend on how well you play the card game.

i had the lycia card, it took up the whole playing field

The card game was a project Night and I started nearly 4 years back. This is when Classic had a playercount of 70+. This is also the playercount in which KoM was developed for.
However, with my off and on 'employment' with Classic, it took about that long to get the scripts barely done, and a major porition that I think is under-appreachated, was Night's equally long hard work on all the graphical elements of the card game. That aside, in those years, Classic's playercount had been slashed to less than half of its former 2005 status. When you change the playercount drastically of a server, you change the dynamics of everything on that server. With a playercount of 20-30, content that is largely player controlled economies and content breaks down completely. This can be shown by the playercounts effect on events like: KoM - It was designed for 6 on 6 games, impossible to do with the playercount. Ticket Economy - Smaller pool of players getting the same ticket intake makes for people with large amounts of tickets(sup Laura), killing their value. Cards - Admittedly, I was at fault for its failure for the most part(every thing I didn't beta-test enough or prepare enough for(boosters, laming, and the Card Manager NPCW), all of them broke down first. However, as with tickets, with a small player pool, the same people would play the same people, killing the value of card points eventually. This also makes it so newer players are prevented from getting into the game, as the few players around would have nasty decks. Eventually, everything would have broke down, because the game was meant for there to be a range in diversity in players, only being successful with a relatively large group of players playing, even casually. More diversity in opponets is key. For that reason, when I was Dev Admin, I didn't even attempt to revive the game, since there was even less players to keep it going. I won't for the time being either, because at the present time, I don't see any large influxes of players to Classic in the future. It is simply too late for it to succeed. |

Also, nobody is saying cards are taking priority or that we should focus on it. This is just a discussion for the possibility of cards coming back at some point (which doesn't seem likely) |

Well I talked to thor earlier and a few things were brought up:
The possibility of giving cards resembling the npc of the "mini quests" (from thor's thread about the direction of the server.) The fact that the script for the card game is very, very complex and will probably have to be remade into a cleaner version. |

As mentioned already this would definately have to be remade more clean and simpler,
which could take a while to do considering it's a low priority at the current time. Would definately like it to come back though, it was fun while it was competitive, with the right changes it could have been something that kept a steady playercount imo. An idea I liked was for there to be 2 different game modes, a game mode where the 2 players are assigned the same deck, where winning is more down to skill, and a game mode which allows you to play with your collected deck, which would obviously more likely be down to who has the superior deck. Only the auto-assigned deck mode would award the player with some type of point, although the personal deck mode could still allow for betting of commodities or a single card between the 2 players. I also thought it would be fairer for the starter deck to always be the same, and as Gladius mentioned, it could be a nice idea to have characters from completed Quest help-tasks give the player their card. |
