Zodiac Crashing

Okay.. Things are running fine, then for no apparent reason.. SERVER CRASH. -minute or so later- It's back up again.

noplayerkiling(); also is screwing up. It's been a week or two now, and I haven't heard **** all about this getting fixed.

It's really breaking my balls.

I don't think it's just Zodiac...Era has the same problem occasionally.

It used to crash atleast twice a day, but things got better.

Pretty sure that was when Zodiac was still on the same machine as Era and the scripts over there were still eating cpu like an everyday person eats cookies :p

It's not nearly as bad as it was back then as I have optimized a lot of the scripts, and the only time it gets bad is when the excessive amount of damage triggers start pouring in, which can't really be changed without slowing down gameplay.

However it seemed like before the server would run for weeks without complete crash. I am starting to believe it's the gserver's fault.

Npulse and Classic are both on the same server, I'll ask them if they're having similar problems.

Classic and NPulse?

Era and Zodiac are totally different from those two servers. Not to talk about that no one even plays NPulse and Classic anymore.

The last time this happened, it didn't matter what size the playerbase was of the other servers on the same machine. They crashed anyway.

Yep, but NPulse and Classic are not on the same machine as Zodiac, are they?

Bell 07-29-2009 06:05 PM

Graalstats says they are.

I'll explain what was happening on Era, perhaps this'll help?

There was an NPC making tons of putnpc2's (the trash generator, which places random trash across the GMAP). It used to drop something else as well, and when that was removed, the array was reduced to {"trash"}. It was then dropping a random class using randomstring(). randomstring is glitched, and will sometimes return null if there is only one item in the array. In /stats, we were seeing something like this:

We patched the trash generator, and had Stefan delete all the empty classes, and it solved our memory problems. I'm guessing something similar is happening on Zodiac (using too much memory). How much does /stats say you're using?

fowlplay4 07-30-2009 02:38 AM

At the moment.. Nothing alarming, it's used more RAM before and ran fine.

Edit: Appears there was a raid going on at the time of this too.

Well 433mbyte is a lot. Problem on Era was that it only crashed once a month so it wasn't easy to debug. I can check the problem on zodiac tomorrow.
