A trip through waterfall valley

Just some random I made to try out some custom tiles I thought up.
I originally wanted smaller waterfalls(like 2-4 pixels wide) falling from one cliff to the other, but that ended up being too graphically demanding.

Love it !

Galdor 07-10-2009 10:05 PM

very nice =D

Looks good Dusty.

ff7chocoboknight 07-10-2009 11:47 PM

Oh, wow. Looks great, Dusty.

warriors94 07-11-2009 04:05 AM

Bit more detail. Overall the level feels empty to me although I am not sure why...
But Looks good!

Level doesn't really make sense... how does a pool of water spring up ontop of a mountain without a source, and empty down into another pool with no visual sign of where it would drain?

It's pretty hard to make levels in Graal that make geographical sense. However, there are bodies of water like hotsprings that do not have a visible source of water.

While this is true, I still can't imagine a spring popping up ontop of a mountain (as in the peak)

Well there are plenty of inactive volcanoes and such that have been filled with rain water, to form lakes and all at the peaks of mountains. I don't remember the term for it, though. However, this was never intended to be a 'real mountain', more like a hilly valley or something. My idea of a mountain in Graal consists of much, much larger formations of cliffs that end up forming very high.

Doesn't need anymore detail.

After looking for about 10mns at it, I've found a tile error !
It's still so appealing by the way =D

Look inside the red square lol
The mountain ends having dirt when water is close to it.

maximus_asinus 07-11-2009 10:07 PM

There are quite a few tile errors in the level, mostly to do with cliffing.

Err, like where? I'd like to see them pointed out.

Ignore the guy who told you it doesn't have enough detail he doesn't know what he's talking about.

I've circled your worst error. There are a few tile optimizations you could do in other areas to make it look better but this is the biggest issue in your level.

You can see by the screen shot I included that you simply forgot a tile to finish the cliff.

Oh... well I actually do that intentionally. However, I suppose I can drop the habit if it's considered an error :) thanks.

FaLLChiLD 07-12-2009 07:24 AM

It really does make the transitions nicer though. I'd give this level a 8.5/10, I like the classic feel.

WanDaMan 07-12-2009 11:00 AM

Beautiful level, I love what you have done with the tiles too! Keep up the great work! Oh, ugh! The cliffs are s'pose to be tiled the way Dusty has tiled them even though it doesn't look as appealing it is not an error.

Mostly what Madmartigan pointed out, but also your east and west facing cliffs are done incorrectly (it is an error that has to do with even number layering, it really isn't wrong, but it does look bad).

ff7chocoboknight 07-13-2009 12:37 AM

The cliff tiles aren't very well made and are hard to locate on the tileset. I'd never mind small errors on cliffs.

It was a stylistic choice, I thought it looked better than the 'proper' tiles.

Shadow_Deathstorm 07-16-2009 08:44 PM

Nice level, keep up the good work.
