What separates your server from Era?

DuBsTeRmAn 07-03-2009 09:20 PM

Very good question Sales.

As first the whole server is made on our own idea's and we did not copy anything from other servers. Of course, Much things will seem to be the same on two modern servers but we tryed to make it different.
Our gameplay is also set up different. We also have special ways to help people, like the Noctorious TV help.

But you may discover this all yourself on Monday.

as someone who wouldn't be able to participate (i can't get on graal for another 6 weeks or so due to being on a proxy), and as someone who has typically not liked modern-type servers, what can you tell me about your server that could convince a player like myself to come and try your server, other than the initial "oh a new server, might as well log in" type interest?

fowlplay4 07-04-2009 04:57 AM

Your post lacks pictures, tease us.

Robin 07-04-2009 10:01 AM

Also your hirings thread was deleted, probably best to remove it from your signature.

Vima 07-04-2009 11:47 AM

Sounds interesting, I'll be there :)

Liberated 07-04-2009 01:03 PM

what do you mean with hiring professional staff? Do you really mean professional, as in that they also make(for example) graphics for a living or just that not every noob should apply, but that a person should have decent skills in what he or she does.

Such as???

You didn't really tell me how it's different...just that it is. From what I've gathered it is modern, you have gangs, cars, player houses, player-owned businesses, and you have a similar tile-scheme. What is there to do on your server that isn't already on Era? "Creative ways to make money" -- like what?

DuBsTeRmAn 07-04-2009 08:54 PM

You may discover that in the game.

DuBsTeRmAn 07-06-2009 03:51 PM

The server is now open for Players!

Althought it have many bugs, I think you guys have a very good newbie tutorial.
Newbie friendly server, very friendly atmosphere.
Lovely trees.

-
I can see that your tileset and gameplay seems to have been influenced a lot by Era.
Doesn't really stand out.

My advice: Try to think outside the box, don't think about Era:
We'll do this better than Era, that better than them. etc.
Just think about your server, what will make your server stand out from the other servers on Graal? What makes us original? And form the server that way.
Right now, i think that it looks like the chances for you guys to get to the classic tab are very slim. Chances to get to the Hosted Tab are very good.
You guys have a long way left, but I really hope you guys will finish the server.
Graal needs more servers :)

Keep on working! ;)

Soala 07-06-2009 05:27 PM

My report:

The server is, as SK said, very very very friendly !
Even if it has some bugs and things to fix, I really enjoyed the tutorial, the jobs are quite nice and the fishing system is really fun to play !
It may look a bit hard to do, but with some practice you can fully enjoy making money
It looks quite original to do, and develop reflexs !

You have my very first vote for hosted/classic tab guys, wish you the best for the future !

Elk 07-06-2009 05:44 PM

I agree, very interesting server, graphic-wise it is also interesting yet a bit gray for my taste, but fitting for a futuristic theme, very very user friendly, the turorial has flaws but it is great for new players, the fishing system is a bit fast, maybe you should slow it down a bit for younger players that arn't too familar with shooters with precision or so.

Could easily make it to the classic tab if being worked on constantly :)

Clockwork 07-06-2009 09:32 PM

Explored it and found it simply to be another era clone with different graphics.

fowlplay4 07-07-2009 12:30 AM

Good luck with it.

Pelikano 07-07-2009 12:34 PM

I logged on, went to the Tutorial, "Use your shovel to dig, you can find money in the grass"

Oh, wait, why so creative and original? OH RIGHHT ERA

then I logged off

omg, who's up to make a cyberpunk kind of server!

cbk1994 07-07-2009 01:51 PM

When I first logged on, I was presented with some text with a grayish background. I clicked it, and it moved on. Trying to find a way to go back, I clicked it again, but to no avail. It then disappeared, so I don't know what it said.

I find for some reason that I can't move the login window, which is quite annoying.

There's a tips window in the top-left, but defying logic, it's filled with tons of text. Shorten it a bit so that players will be more likely to read it.

I think you meant a "temporary" shovel.

I'm now in a place with tons of (sorry) hideous-looking flowers and trees. There are two guys wanting me to talk to them, so I go up to one, and am presented with that gray background with a wall of text, which I don't want to read. I close that gray thing by clicking it, then start digging for five minutes trying to find the money. You should lower the money needed - I understood how to dig in seconds. I shouldn't have to waste time to advance in the tutorial.

I noticed that most of the staff blocks have really poorly written messages, and they look horribly unprofessional (look, copying Era! ;))

Fishing was cool and original, though I think it'd be better if fishing involved more than just standing at a ledge. Also, there should be some kind of interface for the percent (or even a bar like a HP bar, for example). It's hard to see my chat.

The steam trail on the bullets & the impact location are off slightly.

Is it just me, or is my gun moving forward when I shoot it?

The gun system isn't anything new. It feels a bit sluggish though, not sure why. The GANIs need some work; right now they look way to sketchy and jumpy.

The TVs with the scrolling text are annoying and make it hard to see what's written (I don't want to wait a year to read the message).

There were some more people wanting to talk, but I decided not to listen to them. I don't have all day.

I had to reconnect for the door to go away (the block told me what to do).

Now I'm in some room with an ATM I can walk through and a locked door. There are televisions, but nothing's playing. I'm leaving through the bottom to find an outside that looks almost monochrome. It's like completely brown. I don't like it at all.

I explored a bit and found the hospital. It's brown, inside and out. There were no doors leading to any beds that I could find, so I left.

I did notice an item on the counter, which, upon clicking, opened up a new window which was also practically monochrome, but this time in a silvery/white way. The buttons need to contrast more; I can barely see them.

The streetlight has a very weird perspective.

Ultimately, it's a cool server. It's got some interesting ideas that could be developed more (e.g. fishing). It could definitely go hosted with some work. However, for it to go beyond that, you're going to have to cross the "Era" barrier and find something that separates Noctorius from Era besides just a few things. You'll have to have something that is going to make players go to Noctorious besides just cheap guns and such (which is how servers like Graal X, Kriegzone, etc. all got players). I hope you don't confuse this post as bashing. It's a lot easier to point out the negatives than the positives of something, especially on Graal ;).

Good luck.

I actually liked the comment, not as gratifying as a positive comment but it is as welcomed. Of course we do have space for improvement and, that's what this beta week is for. We will of course improve it and try to improve as much as we can. We are still focusing on gameplay as our next step in development so for the next beta (supposing there is one O.o) things should have shifted a lot.

On a side note, guns are cheap just so they can be accessible for anyone without much work. We are not trying to use it as means to attract players but as a way to display some guns. :)

p.s. Thanks to everyone who commented, comments are appreciated. ^^

Noctorious Beta

http://wiki.graal.net/images/d/da/No...a6july2009.png

Noctorious is a modern themed server with many of the same features you'd expect from a modern server, however the the staff team has paid great attention to detail brining a unique style of design to the server. The public beta testing is from Monday the 6th until Monday the 13th of July giving a glimpse of what's to come.

Notorious is looking for Scripters, Level, Graphic, and Gani Artists to help with the development project. For more details Click here.

Yes he didn't see our body's XD

DustyPorViva 07-07-2009 09:15 PM

Hmm, the movement system is pretty bad. Wall detection is way off and there's no sliding around corners.

Deas_Voice 07-07-2009 09:37 PM

u guys gotta learn to uploaded your bodies/heads...
i uploaded my head and body way back :)
(p.s use /find bodyname to see if it's upload )
