We are planning a Pokemon spin off. We have a battle system in development where you can battle other players using creatures which you can actually catch in the wild and raise and level up. There is also going to be gym leaders etc. This server is going to be different from the actual Pokemon in a few ways: the server is going to be set in a modern realistic looking tileset and the Pokemon, instead of looking like cute cuddly animals they are going to be demons (which we havn't come up with a name for the species yet). We are looking for graphics artists, scripters, levelers, gani artists, and sound effects.

I don't think Nintendo can copyright the idea of a Turn-based Pet Fighting Game, also I've yet to see any content blatantly ripped from Pokemon besides the general idea which definately will change as it's developed i hope, and slightly similar art style.

They can't, but they can definitely have copyrights on all their characters.
Yeah, the art style is incredibly similar. And that's called Misappropriation. The designs would have to be changed quite a bit from what they are now, mostly because several of them too closely resemble copyrighted characters Gamefreak has currently. These characters are not currently public domain, so they could technically file suit if this work gets published.

Fair enough but with that argument Nintendo could already pursue Graal for the similar Zelda art. Besides, they shouldn't even worry about it and just develop their server.

I'm not saying this idea should be killed. I just think it's a bad idea to go around flaunting this as a Pokemon clone.

The designs should be substantially different from what they've got released so far, and instead of referring people back to Pokemon, you can just say that it's a monster-capturing server or something similar. People will get the idea.

Point is, a server like this shouldn't be explained to people by referring to another game when that first game has long since spawned an entire genre of new games.



Plus, I don't think it's ethical to put Cyberjoueurs at legal risk in pursuit of your own interests when they provide and entrust you with server space and tools to work with anyway.

Era is like GTA, and Zodiac is like WoW, they should be removed ^^

No they're not. Era is nothing like GTA and WoW uses a completely different class system.

I was being sarcastic, i was just trying to state what people say, and how stupid it sounds, such as Draenin stating Graal will get in trouble if a player says its pokemon like. Graal ripped zelda's tiles and everyone knows that, and i have yet to see anything happen. Not to mention all the pokemon heads, matrix heads, etc, on every server.

They could use 'Daemon Cubes' to capture monsters.
I would be all for that but they 'sold' server space to them, and in order to learn the language they provide us you have to buy a server or just be able to ensure all your scripts would work offline.

I don't think we should be alarmed about it right now, I do agree with Draenin about referring to the server as a pokemon clone, and how it can actually cause problems at some point. I do like the idea as I have always enjoyed pokemon games and, I do hope it gets somewhere. If they do change they're style as capshadow mentioned, they should be fine. A modern monster capturing server sounds like a cool idea after all.^^

Right. You pay them for a service they provide to you. But if you screw up, they have every right to tear all your work down, and possibly hold you accountable for it.
