Lava Event Idea

Everytime I host this event it takes an extremely long time to finish. The size of the arena is good for 10-15 people but once it gets down to 3 or 2 people left there is just too much space for people to run around in freely. My idea is for ET's to have a command to shrinkin the level. So when there's 2 people left they will be able to finish it much faster than how it's been in the past.

Tell me what you think. :D

MagikMasterMind 02-14-2009 06:03 AM

Spawn boxes, and told them to fight in that small area you delimited yourself.

jkool666 02-14-2009 06:34 AM

It's a good idea Donark, but there's other things to be worked on at the moment for the next while.

Spawning boxs doesn't work to effectively.

RevolutionJS 02-14-2009 10:36 AM

100% agree, Yesterday we were with 3 left 2vs1 it took 15 mins and then I suicided.

MiniOne 02-14-2009 11:17 AM

:D I Reckon this is a great idea
xD whos stupid now Jesse

jurre24d 02-14-2009 12:39 PM

Nah, I think a commend is better, that's faster.

Is there any plausibly reason, why events have to be finished in less than 5 minutes, foreseen the hoster started it and does not have the patience to leave it run out the usual operational sequence.

Recently there seems a high tendency, of the hosters, to intervene in the regularely going event by enableing more weapons, with bots, boxes, vehicles, or even manipulation by shooting at the participants as ET.

I don't think, that any of these actions, doing good in a already running event, especially cause the participants never know what might go through the hosters head during the event, revamping the event and messing the clearly stated rules and announcements BEFORE the event.

If you don't have the time to leave a event regularely going to the end, whats the sence of starting it?

I've noticed that too. Probably just being lazy wanting to get the event over.

Ravenblade1979 02-14-2009 04:47 PM

Actually I noticed that too Donark when I hosted it. I actually wished that I could shrink it as fewer and fewer people were playing it.

pooper200000 02-14-2009 07:42 PM

Perhaps it could be made so that sleds that are spawned will also act as walls on the lava event GMAP. This way the ETs can change the size of the round. It would be easier than creating variable GMAPs (GMAPs that operate depending on variables such as the number of players)

Deas_Voice 02-14-2009 08:32 PM

i think there should be something that u can break or ride like boxes to spawn, but you cant break them.

no need for freezing the vehicle before spawning them.

I've never seen that, and Iv'e never done that.

To save time maybe? Why take more time if it can be done on a faster pace? Lava Event can take up to 30 minutes and that's just pointless.

MiniOne 02-15-2009 11:16 AM

Yes actually ETs do seem to have little patience for events ...
A example of this is Jkool spawning bots to kill Either realddc or bigtime because they we're having a long spar on a dm event?
We shouldn't be punished for having the ability to dodge... just because it takes more time.
Remember the older days when you use to allow events to run for 1hour? or more ? those days you could spar for ages without needing to be killed by a bot....

See it from the other side..
Tehre are also 30 other players that have to wait 1 hour till theres coming a new event.
In that event if im not wrong Dennis and Biggie were healing to..
So they are kinda asking for it.
Im sure this problem can be solved on anyway.

In the past few days I've encountered these:

Bots on BarrelWars Event
Bots on Deathmatch Event
Bots on Jumprace Event (Non regular ones)
Speeder on Deathmatch Event finals
Mass extra spawned barrels on BarrelWars Event
Boxes on Deathmatch Event
Shooting hoster in Deathmatch Event

And probably some more I dont remember right now.

I wont call names, this is not supposed to be poiting the finger on one or another and looking for a bad guy. It's generally dealt like this, just so shorten the event if the hoster gets bored.

A event just takes it time, all the hoster should do is NOT getting involved into the events usual operational sequence, unless the cleary stated rules BEFORE the event are broken or ignored. All of those events are hosted dozens of time, and everyone is aware, that lava events take they'r while, while a snowrace is done in not even 5 minutes.

Especially big events on the weekends, shouldn't be intervened by the hoster at all, if it's going rule conform, again which are stated clearly BEFORE the event started. Whenever the hoster gets involved in the going event, all he's able to do is making the things unfair.

A event takes its time, and if it's half a hour, then it is half a hour, and if it is 1 hour, well then it is 1 hour. There is no plausibly reason, why a event should be cut, if the cleary stated rules BEFORE an event are followed.

Ravenblade1979 02-15-2009 05:00 PM

I can agree that the hoster shouldn't get involved unless they have to be or like me when i had to set box walls is neccessary.

@Jesse: I don't care if you keep saying that I don't play zone....no hoster has a right to really interfere in the events unless it is absolutely neccessary. If you get impatient with how long a event takes then don't host that one anymore. Let another hoster who has patience host it.

I agree with Revolution on this one. Raven and Jesse, if the two of you would like to argue about why Raven is no longer staff or another subject of a similar gravity, and granted its past history of where it will go, please do so in forum PMs. This goes the same for anyone else who wants to break the rules in this forum.

Please do not quote this or the above part of my post. It is fine to quote from down from this point in my post.

Events are events. If an events team member would like to host more events in less time, it is their choice to implement changes in the event. I will not say that implementing the changes are right or wrong, but some maps are far too large when there are two few people.

To further relate this point to the beginning post, such a command as the one mentioned would require scripting, as I believe it would then become necessary for a variable map. As I believe I've already stated, a variable map is a map that changes according to certain statistics such as the number of players on the map.

As the map would need to change during game play, perhaps it could be further implemented to have an addition of banks that will shrink the size of game play, thus speeding up the round.

This would allow for quicker game play on the part of the participating players while also allowing for a quicker round for the events team member, thus solving the problem of them being bored.

This would also allow for events team members to host more events in a quicker amount of time without the need for them to interfere with their own events.

Ravenblade1979 02-15-2009 07:02 PM

Like you said though Supernanny you would need more of this map made as the variable would need something concrete to make it real. And your idea is wicked with this.

Aight, it is the event of the hoster, and as long as the things are fair for everyone it's the hosters choice to set the rules, the event and the date. But what necessarily need to be taken in mind is, that the events have clarified rules BEFORE the event starts.

So whoever joins the event as participant, relys the event happen on these rules. If the event is already going, and the things get changed, I am and according to all the Masses others aswell are usually disappointed with that inconsequence.

A example about this would be:

Im good with barrels, so I decide to join a event with barrels allowed, all of a sudden in the finals barels are not allowed anymore.

Either there are rules, before a event starts, or its a event with open rules as surprise, and everyone can decide himself if he wants to compete on that, or not.

Dude thats another reason new zone is screwed... In the older zone we only had 3 event items and each hosted at completely different times, so you would have a rp event which went for 1hr or more and when you died you either watched who won or move on to iricia and start trying to get b1...
And you are wrong Dennis and Biggie weren't healing till the bots came, just because they are skilled players doesn't mean that you guys have to have a cry about them being able to last a long spar?
Like me and Zen could of done that but we prefer a quicker spar, on the other hand Bigtime and Dennis enjoy a longer spar which requires more skill

Ravenblade1979 02-16-2009 04:56 PM

@Dennis: so your saying that hosters are massing the rules then suddenly changing them during the event? If this was indeed happening don't you think that jesse would have been notified and he would have dealt with it swiftly.

@MiniOne: People will always whine when the more skillful kick their butt.

Dan 02-16-2009 11:29 PM

I agree this is a problem. I will try to make some different lava-event levels the ET's can set for the event.

Nataxo 02-17-2009 12:05 AM

Agreee. Usually when it's the final two I start reading the forums lol.

I was thinking maybe something like this for when there's 4 people or less.
