PK zones

To many buildings are no-PK, why not make more buildings PK areas or remove the no-PK status of the current buildings. Second remove the PK area by unstick me, it discourages PKing in the over world and building interiors. Era seems to easy, you get shot at you run inside and your safe, wait 30 seconds then unstick. Back in the old days if you ran you got chased and killed, it was fun..now not so much. Anyway what does the community think (not like this will even be considered though).

DarkRenji 01-25-2009 11:45 AM

The only building I want to be no-pk is the hospital, And I want unstick moved into the hospital ....

Make like 4 ways to get out so theres not laming then its all good.

DuBsTeRmAn 01-25-2009 01:18 PM

Agreed, And lockers also no-pk

then they need to be apart of the unstick/hospital because we dont need no-pk buildings over the gmap :X

DuBsTeRmAn 01-25-2009 01:57 PM

So you say that a business should be PK? Eh that sucks? You are buying ammo and you just get lamed, wow?

Frankie 01-25-2009 03:15 PM

ha that's funny because I made lockers pk zones and all I got were complaints. now people want them back to a pk zone. tsk tsk.

Yocas 01-25-2009 04:32 PM

This has been suggested a hell of a lot of times. They're just afraid that players will start complaining about getting killed at every corner. I say screw them. How do you guys think most of Era's top players got good at this game? I remember I'd get killed every 5 minutes once I left the hospital. People were pking the hell out of each other back in the day. But now Era became some kind of care bear society where there's always a safe spot for these little girls to hide in.

Seriously Era, man the **** up.

salesman 01-25-2009 06:55 PM

I'm not sure what's the current administration's plan with the new gmap, but I had it set up so that the hospital and unstick me were in the same place, and all no-pk zones were in, or very close to, unstick me. In pking places (such as around gang bases) there wouldn't be a single no-pk zone.

Getting rid of all no-pk zones is a bit overkill, but I agree that having them in places where people tend to pk is a fun-killer.

Is there a way to script an NPC guard for for certain buildings/businesses that attack players who fire a gun within their building?

My idea was to have it where businesses have to pay daily/weekly for guards that are programmed to prevent PKing on their property. Depending what type of guard they hire would determine the damage and HP the guards would have.

If you really want to get strict about it I was thinking of having it where you'd be sent to an automated jail for an 'X' amount of time (2 - 3 minutes) if you ended up getting killed by one of the guards.

Just a though. If there was a script like this to work then there would be no need for non-pk zones and it would run just like any MMORPG game in PvP.

Possible compromise,

We make a fenced in area that contains hospital, unstick, bank(locks/safety deposit), mall, restaurant and 2-3 playerhouses/apartment. Outside of this area it's no holds barred. Every area i pk zone.

The inside of the fenced in area could even be a pk zone, but there are guards(NPC) there. If they catch you firing at someone, You get shot and throw out of the safety zone, When you die you got a hospital that is pk. You may return after a certain amount of time (days/weeks) to the safety region.

This would allow for a safe harbor for newbies and people that don't want to fight but leave the rest of era completely pk.

I'll also go ahead and steal Yocas idea. Business could hire protection NPC's to ensure there is no player killing in/around their property.
Just a idea.

I don't think that businesses hiring "protection NPCs" would work very well. I'd rather see fewer shops, and all of them no-pk.

I look at it this way. It gives the businesses more to pay for other than taxes. Except this would be optional.

But how wouldn't it work?

As long as there was a way to ensure they were actually doing the job, it would do okay. However, if they actually tried to shoot at the player, that wouldn't really work.

I actually think Yocas's idea would work wonderfully if you were strict on it and you'd actually get jailed if one of those guards kill and/or catch you. Be really neat. Afterwards they could be thrown outside as well not to return to the non-PK zone for a while. There would have to be ammo shops though outside, otherwise they'd be screwed.

Freudian_slip 01-26-2009 05:20 PM

Another option though could be the Guard NPC in the store that you paid for just made the level non-PK, but eh...
I love running from cops on games.

The NPCs in the quests always got a shot out of me. I don't see how it wouldn't work. That and the guards would initially be faster than the players.

Freudian_slip 01-26-2009 06:20 PM

Couldnt you have it scripted so that if anyone fires at all the NPC's would attack them?

My idea was the NPC's would watch if you shot someone. If they "saw" you hurt another player while in the safety reason they would go after you and kick you out of the safety.

Freudian_slip 01-26-2009 07:01 PM

It's going to have to be a pretty big punishment, otherwise you'll get people just doing it regardless of a death. Ironically, death on Era means so little but I wouldn't want it any other way...at least in the PK zones.

But kicking them out for a week I suppose is a pretty big punishment, but where will they go when they die? If you have PK hosptials, people could camp the beds. But eh, I guess thats part of their punishment? I feel bad for the noobs though haha

I dunno, I think this could work it just needs to be completely thought out and looked at for any ways around getting caught, etc.

Though I also think it'd be kinda neat for now if businesses had to hire a guard for their busienss and pay him (NPC) to make the level non-PK, otherwise it turns PK. So they'd have an electric bill, security bill and a rent fee.

Yocas 01-26-2009 07:15 PM

To make the script easier it could be programmed to detect shots that have been fired and attack the shooter instead of having the bullets having to necessarily hit someone.

Angel 01-26-2009 07:32 PM

Yocas,
It's actually easier to build it into the HP control system. When someone takes damage I trigger the guard. That way I know PlayerA hit PlayerB I don't have to manually trace the bullet.

Yocas 01-26-2009 07:41 PM

What happens if someone runs into a building while bleeding lol?

But hey I was just trying to make it more simple and easier for the NAT(s). If you can script it that way then go for it.
