i was trying to make a deep sea water based sword and practicing detail, its the only sword ive made that looks as odd as it does, i thought id get a few opinions.

Deeek 01-14-2009 07:33 PM

what is that comming out of the handle?

Soala 01-14-2009 07:34 PM

Deas_Voice 01-14-2009 07:51 PM

its supposed to be a stone kinda dragon sculpture, i havent got the hang of such details yet but the top bits a fin, and theirs a head, its all stone but theres a tiny red eye their.

the blade wont fall off, the back of the blade is supported by a sort of spinal cord, its hard to see but its their

Sword, or machete? Looks alright though, just hard to understand what it is.

Unkownsoldier 01-15-2009 02:15 AM

Pretty cool, I guess the those are wings coming out of the hilt I never really understood that though what do birds or mythological creatures like a griffin have to do with water ?

Oh sheesh bub.. where to start? >_< I really did NOT want to edit this considering how bad it is.. But dont let me telling you its bad bring down your spirit any. I am just an honest crit. But dont think that i'm going to say it's bad and leave it at that without giving you any pointers on how you could fix this.. as most would do. :\ But do not take any of these things im telling you to heart, suck them all up and use them to your advantage. Ok well, first off.. 2 things that stick out the most to me and any other GFXer, are your lines (which are jagged and unshapely), and your shading (which is totally off and over texturized). A sword should be sleek, smooth, and balanced. I mean obviously with a mis-shapen sword (like youre going for) it cant be completely balanced, but try to make it looks as useable as possible. Your shading, completely lacks any type of smoothness, or light source. Try to balance your color usage, and learn about light sourcing. Here, i've done a step by step edit, but as with all my edits this was quick and probably not the best, but it's a good example of what you should be getting towards and how to fix these certain aspects i've explained to you.

*Edit*
I also took a whack at your little "hydra" thing on the edge of your hilt, didnt realize that was there at first. But anyways, here ya go it was another quick edit, but yeah. And also.. @ UnknownSoldier, the whole "mythological creature" thing is a hydra, and has alot to do with water. If you know anything about Greek mythology, the hydra was a gaurdian to the waters, a monster created by the god of the seas, Poiseiden.

would be much cooler if it didnt have the weird dragon and less curve to the blade...

*snicker*

Clockwork 01-15-2009 06:30 AM

Looks like my first pixelart :3

Deeek 01-15-2009 06:39 AM

I generally discourage using pure white as a highlight - I've learned over time that it's a good idea to not use harsh colors unless you gradually build up to them in your shading. The sword Sage made looks like the handle and hilt is glowing.
