Observation: Events Team

The past three weeks, there have been zero events during the days in Europe time, even when playercounts range between 15-20. This leads me to believe there's a distinct lack of ET members living in that timezone, and I would like to propose the hiring of one or two.

Actually, there's been a lack of events all together. I've seen three ET's host events, mainly Dustin, Nathaniel (I think?) and Maroku, but I can probably count the number of events on two hands.

Sure, I haven't been on 24/7, but I'm just posting this to hopefully get events hosted more actively and not just when there's 25+ players during prime time. There's nothing more depressing on Kingdoms when you see an ET go on tag, only to untag 10 minutes later without having hosted anything (believe me, that happens rather often). More events would not only help to drop the Event Coin prices back to normal (from 20 to 30 dias in just few months, what...?), but it would lead to a more stable flow of online players during the majority of hours.

Thoughts? :)

Gothika 01-08-2009 09:14 PM

We've lost a lot of EM's recently. I think there is only 3 of us at the moment. I live in the European timezone and I'm online pretty often. But usually I can't get to host an Event until about 10:00pm because of the low playercounts.
During the weekend isn't a problem, I can usualy host as early as 2:00pm. It's just the weekdays when we get a major player drought.

That happened? It really shouldn't be. We're not supposed to be on tag unless we are hosting an Event. Did you remember who it was?

I believe it was Zeltino.

Soala 01-08-2009 09:44 PM

Just hire me, I live in France :)

MajinDragon 01-09-2009 02:38 AM

The problem isn't the lack of EM's... I understand where Naith is comming from, GK's playercount is way too low most weekdays, for obvious reasons - people have a life.

kia345 01-09-2009 02:41 AM

Zelt does idle in trade with (GK Staff), but not on EM tag.

This "trial EM" thing is stupid. Hire people, if they're inactive ever, fire them.

shrimps 01-09-2009 03:17 AM

If you fire EM because their inactive EVER then there would be no EM. Plasma Events Assistant or what ever his title was, I don't know what happened to him. He just disappeared with no word.

As far as the other day, I've seen two or 3 different EM on tag but not hosting, doing preparations for the next days event or later day event.

Me and Pat and whoever else was an EM with us were almost constantly hosting. The reason EMs aren't active is partially because they don't feel obligated to actually host. If they knew being inactive would cost them their position, they wouldn't have applied to begin with.

shrimps 01-09-2009 03:40 AM

Bring it up with Maroku to hire more EM then if you guys are so bothered.

kia345 01-09-2009 03:42 AM

I know I do, he just ignores me.

I guess I don't speak mediocrity.

shrimps 01-09-2009 04:02 AM

Who knows, if he wants to hire more, maybe I'll try EM.

Edit: Just found out Plasma quit GK, he has no Gold, and he's been playing WoW. :(

Yes. Yes it is. The selected few that we have do host when they're online, which they aren't all of the time.

So you're calling me a liar, how nice of you. I saw it at least once, I'd like to recall it happening twice but not necessarily with Zelt.

This is what this thread is about, in case you skipped reading my original post.

Drakeero 01-09-2009 05:44 PM

I'd like to point out that being on tag is the only way to get into certain areas like event buildings [when the event isn't active] and the staff shop. FAQ's can walk in whenever they want because they're supposed to be on tag all the time, but EM's have to pop on and then pop off.

I've always found an EM online around peak times, there have been problems with empty EM bags sometimes and they just can't host w/o donations, or if raven was still hosting  - He evented his own stuff off when EM bag was empty.

That's not the only hours of the day when there's at least 15 players online. You shouldn't be forced to play at peak hours, which might be rather late for most Europeans when there's school or work day the tomorrow, to get a fair chance to participate in events. Especially not since Event Coins are so valued in the economy.

Oh no, I wasn't, I was just confirming that I saw him idling on a tag, not necessarily the EM one. If you say you saw him doing it, I really don't have any room to say otherwise. I worded it wrong.

Drakeero 01-10-2009 04:17 AM

Well. There's one other argument I remember using in the past. The EM team is not getting paid in real money. Maybe some do it for in game prestige but I think most EM's do it because its fun to try to add something to the server and make it a better place. There's a limit to how far people will be willing to go out of their way, or even how far they can go out of their way.

Everytime I tag up, I host an event. Maybe you saw me tag up when I was preparing to host an event? I do that often, realize I shouldn't be on tag while hiding things, and tag off so nobody follows me. But I do not tag up unless I am hosting.

I usually rarely idle. While I am at work, I may idle due to having to do paperwork, or my boss coming in. But I keep my GK Staff tag on to encourage people to ask me questions if they need help. Sort of like an FAQ tag.

You hardly tag up because you're hardly on, and you hardly idle because you're hardly on.

shrimps 01-10-2009 07:26 AM

I see Zeltino on quite often.

I wouldn't know, and quite frankly, it has nothing to do with why I made the thread. I'd still like to hear what Maroku or even Tig have to say about the lack of events being hosted.

If they're hired for something and then fail to do it, replace them, easy as that.

Drakeero 01-10-2009 07:33 PM

Ok, listen screwballs. If you complain about no events, how about checking the Kingdoms Event board every now and again?

Because of my real life issuse, I can't keep a schedule. I'm hired around as an EM who exclusively hosts big, fancy, special events.

It drives me insane when such events go through the crack because A: people can't be bothered to even READ the announcements. B: People don't bother to show up. C: People don't bother to prepare if it'll take some cooperation from them. D: Too busy screwing around.

So, until you people actually start participating in the events there ARE. I don't want to hear people whining about there being no events.

You mean that thing that only a handful of people know exists, or even know the url too?

And I'm not taking about big special events, because we have a lot of those. I'm talking about normal events.

If you can find this thread, it only requires 4 extra IQ to find the other. It's 100x easier then Waldo to find. Go on, look for it.

Drakeero, please, stop hosting just big events. Not everyone on GK uses these forums, and not every who uses these forums cares about GK events. Just host regular events and quit putting a 4 month cooldown on your event hosting.

Currently, Graal Kingdoms has a average playercount of ~20. I personally like to see 4 people on the event team, in different time zones, with one as the administrator and one as the administrator's assistant - the remaining two are general EMs. All event staff ideally serving clusters of overlapping timezones.

However, we're not so lucky to have competent and trustworthy players to work in all timezones. So we end up with 4 people from the popular timezone clusters... which equates nearly 25 percent of our active online players.

Long story short - it's not that easy as "replace them". Not everyone is mature enough to deal with 15+ people all haulering different and often insulting things at them. If they can manage that it's rare that they can be trusted with event prizes. If we're fortunate enough to get the first two qualities they're often not competent or studious enough to apply themselves to specific principles and schedules ideal to Events Managers.

So, once again, long story short... it's very hard to find any staff for most positions, let alone ideal or even capable staff. >_<

However
, given the rise of complaints I have been in communication with our events team and I am hopeful to resolve the decline of events very soon. Event suggestions, modifications, and applications are always appreciated.

Big events are fun, and something Drakeero enjoys. I wouldn't scold him - we just need to improve our announcement system so people can anticipate his events better.

That recent 'big' event of yours was a sham.

shrimps 01-11-2009 09:45 PM

Honestly, I'd have to agree, if you're a "Big" events host then shouldn't that qualify for "Big" event prizes?
I'm not trying to sound greedy or anything, I'm just asking.

It's in poor taste to insult someone's hard work, especially since they're volunteering their time for everyone's enjoyment. You should understand Drakeero's circumstances in real life too - he's really going out of his way to help you guys, you shouldn't ruin any fun he has doing it.

Unrelated to Drakeero's events - the playercount is currently too low to pump "big" prizes into the economy. If anyone complained about "power players" before, they'd hate to see what would happen if we started pumping out big prizes now.

I have - honestly - met little girls who behave like you two are. It's really very disappointing... you're being very ignorant toward the staff that work hard to keep everyone entertained. What's worst about this is you're insulting Drakeero personally.

The members of our staff are all volunteers, they enjoy doing what they do - or they wouldn't do it... and that's exactly what will happen if people remove their enjoyment. Where will we be then?

Not saying it was Drakeero's fault, it just needed a bit more supervision and participation. 90% of the participants were from CP, who didn't care who won, aslong as they were in their ranks. So naturally, the Dusty General and Zormite High Templar were up against the CP Navy. And i got pillored - yea it was my fault but we werent told we couldn't pk, infact we were told 'I can't enforce any PKing rules'.

Ravenblade1979 01-12-2009 01:08 AM

Majin I do remember hosting off my own stuff quite a bit. Frankly it sounds like you want more hosters and/or more events hosted.

@Drakeero: If you won't host normal events why are you even an EM. A events master should be able to host ALL events. It doesn't matter how much your on. If your on and not doing a big event you should still host normal events.

I agree with Stephen. Drake does not have the time to host normal events but he gives what little time he has to host big events.

shrimps 01-12-2009 02:06 AM

I liked the event it was cool, other than either way it was a win win for CP. CP were supposed to attack the rum ship as well, all they did is take out non CP, then the Rum Runners just gave the prize to the lower members of CP.

kia345 01-12-2009 02:20 AM

I didn't participate, merely rode around and spectated, and I'm not accusing CP of cheating, but events like these shouldn't be dependent on kingdoms. If you need pirates for an event, just get some random people to RP some. You can't trust everyone to not show favoritism to their kingdoms.

Drakeero 01-12-2009 02:33 AM

Thanks for your support guys. Since I have trouble hosting small events reliably I've been "staying away" from small events so I don't step on the toes of other EM's. Though, I've been invited to co-host some so I might do more of that.

And yes, I love big and/or special events to death. To me, big events fit into the game better, even if they're not all RP. They're challenging, they're different. Maybe the details of the Rum Runner event worked out a little sucky but those can be fixed. At least the idea was good.

I like the challenge of trying to do the best with what little the game has to offer so it's just not quite as bland as it normally is. I think there should be a limit to the quality and quantity of prizes handed out for 'quick' events. That's one of the reasons why I loved scavengers so much when I first started. They could be quickly set up to any theme and they could be easy or hard.

And the prizes with big events can be different. Yeah there are the special power items you can receive for the really big and special events, but its easier to get more variety in. What about things that aren't normally considered prizes but have some value to them? Clothing sets for beauty contests, rum from the rum runner event. There might even be carpet and furniture prizes soon to help players out with the house designing contest due on the 30th.

BigBear3 02-06-2009 10:48 PM

BUMP

Lack of events happening again.

Hoping to bring this to somebody's attention so perhaps they'll CARE.

Today there was this event that wasn't even called an event. Maroku made a "quest". Oh yes. His idea of a quest was to kill his spawned monsters until they were no more. I miss Musical Chairs, Waterglass, you know... the ones that take no effort to host?
