Stop pillow shading XD

If you want to give it a round shape for exemple on top, here's an exemple, it's a really old chest but I guess you get the concept.

Ill give it a go.

My problems with this is:

- You've dithered on the metal. Use solid shading on metal textures.

- You haven't added a rounded shading to the metal bits on the top of the chest. (Same with Soala's chest aswell).

- The shading for the top bit needs to be back a bit. It looks odd the way it is now.

You're getting better though.

Attachment 46981? ill fix the metal.Attachment 46981

That's a bit better. However, I still have issues with it.

The front part shouldn't have the rounded shading. It should be flat.

Also, I dislike the way you've added the curved shading to the metal bit on the sides. The brightness should be relative to the surrounding shading, not just a block of bright yellow. Also, add more shine on the edges, where light would fall on it.

Also, are you using references images? My favourite way to practice is to look up objects on Google and then pixel them.

You're colors really arnt good.. >_<, you're pillow shading.. pillow shading = BAD! And you are too consistant with your color location. You must create a light source. Light source meaning choose a place that the direction of light comes from and shade it according to the direction.. Obviously in this case it would be coming from the top, so what you would do is place you're lighter colors towards the top of the image, than your darker colors towards the bottom thus giving a feel of light direction. You're bottom shouldnt be roundly shaded as you're top is, as the bottom should be flat considering that the object is basically a box with a rounded top. But, here's a quick edit on your chest to give you an example of what im trying to get at. ^^ Although this was a very quick and kind of crappy edit (i know it lacks in certain areas).. it should give you a push towards where you should be.

Take your time and do a good version, I'd like to see a final product.

Not that bad for recolor, but I can't seem to understand why you made it blue ? It doesn't look wooden anymore :frown:

Unkownsoldier 01-04-2009 05:43 PM

It was not a recolor I just took similar shading patterns from the other one.

Make something completely different, applying what you've learnt here :)

Unkownsoldier 01-04-2009 06:51 PM

Will do, I have to think though, so you might not see it until probably 5.

Lel, good game Luda. ;) But um.. Unknown dont just recolor my edit. Try it yourself, and yes it IS a recolor and I can tell just my looking at it that it has the same exact pixel placement as mine. :asleep:
