Era News
 

Since my first edition of ~Era News~. Amsel told me Vulcan and him were finishing the scripting/dev for Era News. Well, for some random reason they haven't upload it yet, and i coudn't contact either.

Last week I spoke with Sales about this, and he promised to help me after new year. But guess what? he resigned that same day ;_;.

I haven't talked with Tig about this yet, But I wanted to make a thread and I know he'll read this =P.

So, I want Era News back :).

You'd need a lot of staff support to bring that back since staff had to actually make those newspapers.

Right now I think thats the last thing that needs doen though.

It's a good idea, but it's also a somewhat large project. We need to get a bigger scripting base before we do that, if I add a few more scripters I could have one of them work on it. Right now there's only Crow and me and we need to concentrate on more important things.

It's not that hard to do, atleast the way I would do it but then it would probably not work for whatever reason. Nat you could talk to Daz about what it was you could probably even finish it or find someone to finish the script for you Era Staff don't have to do everything

I think this is a good idea for Era.
Reason being, Era changes at the drop of the hat and Erians don't understand or know things that have happened.

This is a great idea to help newer people as well as older people keep up-to date with Era.

Didnt era already have and era news? couldnt they use those scripts? or are they gone..

I just don't want to see stuff like:

"The price of this gun is not this and that"

Because you just simply can't say that on Era, otherwise you can't rip off people, and if you can't rip off people it isn't Era anymore.

I have no idea of how it works x_X. But in that case, can the Staff give those rights to the Era News Staff?

Scamming is what makes Era what it is.

just keep era news on a website. you have so much more flexibility than doing it in game.

I love doing the News at the Forums and everything but the thing is... I really want the Era players that dont read the forums, read my news too! I talked to Sales about helping me promote it but he reisgned ;_;

Also, Forum Era News doesnt bring in any money.

Mass it out in-game, and say "Check out the current news!"

Or something like that. These 'news stories' are really informative and need to be recognized.

era news isn't that important and needed compared to other projects that are currently being worked on. not to mention the lack of staff, and the staff quitting rate going up.

I do think Era news would make a difference, and they are also fun to read!,;)

I don't think that we need any "Era News" right now.

1) There are a lot of other projects that need to be worked on right now, and we've got only two NATs. (Crow, Tig)

2) There's a big menu someone made called "News" already, which pops up everytime you press the N button ^^, I think that's enough and no "Era News" is needed, I am against player ran businesses anyway.

Tig the way i scripted Era News is simple, it's all done it doesent need changed at all, all you need to do is change the GIF image that it uses when you use the newspaper. The paper to stock the newspapers can't be sold as blank paper because they are different database items. All you need is the "Era News" tag and change the gif in the script and your set to go release new editions. Only thing you need to do is make a script where if the first edition is released like i released it the 2nd edition doesen't update people's newspapers if they still have it from the first edition so they need to buy the paper again.

It's not a huge project to do, it's pretty simple to release it to Nataxo as she does great editions here.

Also Era News is not a player ran business where you can make money it's just a business for people that enjoy writing articles, it does how ever take abit of money out the ecomony for people buying the newspapers thats all.

I'm sure if Era News does get uploaded on Era, it won't be an extremely profitable business. You can put your money on that.

Well If I get to be the owner, By system will be like this:

I'll only have a few people with Tags to help me with Editing the News, taking pictures and writing ocacionally. I'll pay something reasonable to this people.

Also, I'll open some sort of "Box" that alouds you to write News. People with Tags will invistigate about this news to see if it's true or not. This way people can work for Era News without tags. (we'll pay a certian amount of money per report from a player)

Do Era shops pay taxes?

especially when players just trade eachother the papers instead of buying them...should probably make them undroppable.

GC is going to bring back Era News, Era News is basically for someone who likes writing articles theres no money making involved, Tig didn't relise that the script i made for Era News was all complete and has been for awhile so Era News should be released again shortly.

Era News is coming back!

That's the only thing that needs to be done is so the news paper can't be tradeable and when you try drop it, it falls apart. Only thing from that they would need to change is when the machine makes the newspaper and drops it, instead of dropping the acual newspaper it drops a different Newspaper that can't be read so it's a totally different database item so when you drop that one into the box it stops the normal news paper.

Then you can make the newspaper fall apart if you try drop it or trade it.

When you drop the newspaper it shouldn't be able to be picked up as a regular item, it should act as part of the recycling job. You should also have places to drop it into, such as recycling bins so you can get rid of them without having to litter.

That would stop the idea of making the newspaper not tradeable or dropable because if you allow it to drop it into recycle bins then people can drop the newspaper for their friends. If they try drop the paper it falls apart so they can't trade it and every person would need to buy one paper.

I don't quite understand your logic here. Trading newspapers is a given, it should just not happen. I quite clearly said that the item, once dropped, would become a part of the scenery of litter that is around Era, used only for the purpose of collecting litter for the recycling job. This would mean that players cannot pick up the paper off of the floor to read it, as you cannot do that with the pieces of paper you find with litter. If you drop a piece of paper into a bin then players would not be able to read it either, where the hell are you getting this from?
