SaveFile
Maybe this is one of those things that's too exploitable to bring back, but I miss Offline Saving. I know the whole point is Graal OnLine, but isn't Offline Game still a viable development goal? But what's the point if every time the player loads up they lose all their weapons, flags, appearance, etc?
I mean, I could do something sneaky with a level full of weapons and a password, but... |
What do you mean Offline saving?
I don't get it :o Like in the Editor? |

Theres no possible way to count the amount of people who play graal offline so statisticaly they are always going to say offline isn't popular
|
Plus it's a necessity if they're gonna sell Graal as a Development Tool.
"Awesome powerful easy programming language! But you can't save." ManWhat? It wouldn't even be that dangerous in the world of Clientside Scripting - you load a file, it tries to addweapons clientside, if you're hacked onto a server the server laughs at you and kicks you off because that's a Serverside command... Even if it's just generic Clientside-Only Offline-Only File Access: "Save all these strings to a text file; load this text file as all these strings", easy. |
That's my problem. Graal has serious potential to create full offline games, but it is left untapped because Stefan has this insane idea that offline gaming is dead to online. I could create some great games offline with Graal(because it's a lot less stressful than creating an online server; a lot less factors), but since there's no way to save...
I seriously think Graal beats out GameMaker and RPG Maker if you put the dedication into it. Or at least, it has the potential to be. |
They need to take care of the fact that it's a game first, then refocus on development tools.

And, how the hell did you post a percent sign? I always get the bad request error. I need a programming hobby, so if anyone wants to help me make an offline game engine, I'm available. |

It seems completely random, though, in my experience. Sometimes I can post it, most of the time I can't. |
Supernanny directed me to a post by Googi who said that you could type % to have it display a percent (%) sign.

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
% Who's Awesome? Angel_Light is Awesome! % %%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Anyways, I though there was a way to read and write files in GS1? (I have never had that percent problem, btw. :P) |
There's a way to write files serversidey with savelog and all, and putnpc is a sneaky way to load them, but there's no way I know of to save a file with a GS1/2 script offline....short of asking the player to press F4, click the Flags, select all, copy and paste into a notepad file...
|
Well, writing % isn't causing any bad request for me :]
But yeah, support for creating offline games would rule. |
Call it an extension of the multiplatform initiative. I mean, what's the point of Graal on iPhone and toaster-ovens and the Wii and Cable Boxes and Microwaves if it's ONLINE ONLY, STOP HAVING FUN GUYS?
