Small suggestion for Login News.

I don't know if it's just me, but I am getting tired of the obnoxiously large images on the login news, and the way the news is presented just makes me not want to look at it at all. When you read the news there is little content, with huge images each with different sizes, and that's not how it should be really and on the default Graal screen size it looks extremely amateur.

I suggest that each news post that would like to contain an image should be limited to two embedded thumbnail images, and when the player clicks on the thumbnailed image it takes them to the Screenshot Gallery, where the image would be uploaded. The thumbnail should be the same size for every image (120x85 -- 15% of the default Graal screen size) and I don't really think there would be any need for more than two images per post.

The idea behind this is to clean up the presentation of the news, and though I feel it could be done a whole lot better, this is just a small change to the current to keep it presentable and consistent. This idea also promotes the use of the Screenshot Gallery, which hasn't received any attention for quite some time now -- no one uses it at all. Here is an example of what I mean:

I agree.

Good idea.

good idea, while I'm at it,
how about favorite servers for PWs,
you can add favorite playerworlds in a tab on the server list, by a bottom "add favorite server", so you don't have to type the server name every time you want to go to a server you work on for example!

I agree, good idea.

I agree with this as well. I hate having to retype servers over and over...

In addition to this, use the playerlist icons next to the news posts so you can easily identify which server they're coming from. It would also be nice if the servers had a "News" tab which was selected by default (with Map being the secondary tab) which displayed the news for that server only.

The screenshots for the Graal news are not stored in the Screenshot Gallery. They are uploaded onto the Graal Wiki and inserted into the articles.

But I do agree that the images need to be limited size.

I am aware, hence saying the Screenshot Gallery isn't even used.

bump, stefan/skyld, is this a good idea or not?

kia345 12-19-2008 08:45 PM

While you're at it, add a preferences tab where you can select what news actually matters to you. I don't want to see Zone or dev server news, so I'll uncheck "playerworlds" and "Zone" and not get news from them.

If you want a person to notice (and reply) to a thread, there's a thing called Private Message.

Put yourself in either of their shoes - do they have a reason to read every thread on the forums all day long when they could be focusing on development of their application(s)? No. I know for a fact Stefan barely check most subforums since he said it himself, so if you want his attention you'll have to PM him if you really want his replies.

Deas_Voice 12-19-2008 10:03 PM

okey, so why even have a "Future Improvements" sub-forum..?
if stefan is the guy to make most of the things on this sub-forum real,
and he don't read it..
w/e

xXziroXx 12-19-2008 10:06 PM

He doesn't actively read it. A forum is made for discussion, not only to get Stefan's approval. If an idea is nice in the eyes of the community, it's here on the forums for documentation and can be brought to Stefan's attention.

If you want his attention, forum PM him, it doesn't get much easier.
