PKing on Era (Split - Mall thread)
I'd like to keep businesses noPk, but most other buildings will end up being pk zones.

Yeah, I'm with you on everything. But our point of view is pretty extreme and for some reason a lot of people dislike it. You can see the problems it would bring up though. It would be very noob unfriendly. I think we can find a good compromise though between full out pk fest and what we have now. I'm fine with the plan for after the reset (as much as I know about it anyways) ... reducing no-pk zones to the bare minimum and introducing the new anti running system... 10 seconds till your safe in a no-pk zone ect... |

There are better ways to deal with this than just getting rid of no-PK zones. |

Yes, I understand that it would be a major problem for all newcommers but that was just my fantasy on how Era should look like. If it was possible to make NPC guards for areas/buildings where PKing needs to be discouraged, then there would be no need to Non-PK zones. That is how most games deal with excessive PVP and to support the newbies.
But I'm pretty sure that would be difficult to script. UNLESS SIDNEY/CROW WANTS TO PROVE ME WRONG! |

you get into a fight. you either kill the other person or he kills you. on Era, 99percent of the time the fight ends in one of them running. it's ****ing ridiculous. |

Then again Graal has always had it's runners. |

Even with huge penalties like that the playercount remains high. Eranians just need to stop being little babies about getting killed. Majority of the time they aren't carrying any money on them when they die so there is nothing to complain about. |
u should always have a choice of not fighting. some people intend to only make money or find friends or explore. without fighting.
they should have an option to run. But frankie ure right when it comes to running from a pk when both people are fighting eachother. though it should always be normal to run when u dont WANT TO fight. |

There is a penalty for dying -- not being able to do anything. It's very hard to enjoy the server when every time you try to do something you're getting hunted. I think it's very hard for the veterans to understand that because they're not the underdog, but when all you have is an Uzi and the other person has some expensive gun that kills you in a couple of shots, it's not very fun. Especially when after dying, you can't even leave the damn hospital because people farm outside of it.
I'm not against PKing, but you gotta give players a chance to do what they want, and not constantly be dragged into what other people enjoy at their expense. |

can a mod split this topic? if not someone make a new one regarding this issue to avoid getting off topic from the mall. |

Pssh, I doubt it has anything to do with being a veteran. When I first started Era and majority of the buildings and zones were PK, I was killed all the time. How do you think I got better? By running away and b*tching to staff about how I have no where to run? NO, I eventually fought back. How else do you expect players to get better at the game? I actually enjoyed the fact that I'd always have to keep an eye out when ever I'm working for money. That whole thrill streak is what made me enjoy Era back in the day. Now a days you can't go 5 ft without having some area or building of protection. Seriously, stop babying the newbies. |

Do you want Era to end up an advance chatroom like Unholy Nation? Feel free to transfer to that server if you don't like Era's concept. |

Like I said, I'm not against PKing, but it's a lot rougher on Era than say, Classic. I don't see any reason to make it even worse. Of course you're against it though, you're not on the pointy end of the sword. And what do you care if a newbie, with no weapons, just trying to make a little cash, can run from you? Where's the harm in that? Is it going to kill you not to be able to hunt that little newbie inside a building they ran into? Sorry you didn't get your easy kill++. If you're looking for fair fights, add in the ability that no-pk zones don't have an effect on anyone who has used a weapon in the last 2 minutes or so. If you're looking for easier ways to farm helpless newbies, go ahead and remove all the no-pk zones. |
Era is a pvp server.
If you don't like it, too bad. Don't log on. I'd rather have a lower player count with fun pking game play than some giant idle chat room with a high player count. edit: offering different things to a player interferes with what the main concept of the server is. there can be alternatives to pking, but pking should always be in the picture. |
Yes, there are other things to do aside from pking, and yes, some people enjoy those things more than pking.
The thing with Era is, if you want to continue to do those sorts of things, you've got to learn to pk. It's just sort of a fact of life on Era. The best way to learn how to fight is to engage people who try to fight you, regardless of how good their guns are. Pking is so ingrained into almost every bit of Era that topics like this become very important for a majority of the playerbase. |

I'm not even saying that players shouldn't be able to have chat areas. They can do what ever the hell they want in their apartments/houses or at a restaurant. Era doesn't need one huge non-pk block or multiple random non-pk buildings for idling/chatting players. |
even the server description states that we have dangerous streets :D
|
Well I'll say it again, but PKers see things in a completely different light than the hunted.
I said it above but I'll repeat it since I edited it fairly late -- If you're looking to make PvP more balanced, add in the ability that no-pk zones don't have an effect on anyone who has used a weapon in the last 2 minutes or some other effect. If you're looking for easier ways to farm helpless newbies, go ahead and remove all the no-pk zones. I don't care what you do, I don't play Era hardly, but this discussion seems fairly biased towards the PKers side. |

A newbie wants to spend his first couple of hours exploring the server, not getting ganked as soon as he steps out of OSL. Is that so hard to understand? You can always make a Newbie Protection system that lasts until manually disabled, or player reaches a certain limit of money, health, or whatever.

By the sounds of it you don't give a flying **** about making PvP more fair and stopping people from running in the middle of a fight. It just sounds like you're gonna hate the idea of not being able to easily tally up your kill count on newbies with no protection. |

On that note I'm done with that, I was fine discussing this until you decided to call me a cryer for no reason other than the fact I don't agree with you. Quote:

Half the fun of Era is trying to get an edge over people in one way or another, fighting through the disparities and becoming better. |
I agree with mange. Era will never be fair.
|
siriously I think era got improved to help new players because of the FAQs and player polices <3

saying that "oh that's how it was back then" is just dumb logic, no offense. newb friendly doesn't exactly mean having to hold the hand of the newbie every given second. just make a tutorial that educates the player with what goes on. let them know they'll need to protect themselves. give them a gun for completing the tutorial. etc etc
|
All this PK zone arguements just shows that Era is lacking the entertainment of PKing/Sparring. There should be monthly PK/Spar events, or something. Like someone stated, you have to consider the new players who just got into the game. Era as it is now is already hard to get into, because of the bad economy/community. It's really hard for them to stay on Era, because they can't get a decent start. If you have a lot of PK zones, than not a lot of new players won't come as much anymore. After that sooner or later a player drought will be inevitable.
I agree with Frankie's arguement. There needs to be a Education/School Center that educates anyone willing to go inside and learn. It will teach them basic controls, how to buy/sell items, basic PKing methods, making money, etc. All this will train these new players into becoming one with the community. |
having a once a month event isn't going to provide constant entertainment.
