Fantasy Life

From the makers of Interitus. We bring to you, a new beginning - Fantasy Life

Hello all and welcome to the thread, I want to start by saying thank you for all your participation in this thread. The answers you give on the questions we ask will help us in the development of our server. So that is a big part, and we really appreciate it.

So I bet your wondering: "What is Fantasy Life all about?"

-Well let me begin by saying the overall theme of the server has not yet been completely decided. If we had to pick one particular theme, it would be fantasy. Just because there is so much stuff that is being planned to be added into game play, that it won't have a one particular theme.

Let's say this for example; There is a good chance there will be a city with modern-ish tiles. We will keep it as unique as possible, yes we know modern is pretty worn out on Graal. Very dull and boring. But the majority of the server will not be modern tiles. In fact, most tiles placed on the set will be different than any other tiles on Graal. Along with them being colorful with a higher saturation set to them. Also, maybe even some 'hovering' levels will be implemented. When I say hovering, I mean like maybe a piece of land or a road that hovers above the rest of the overworld. Mind you that this is just a maybe, as it isn't exactly sure if it's going to be made.

Or, maybe your just wondering "What will there be to do on Fantasy Life?"

- On this topic I can only give you a few answers. We are basically adding anything that seems fun to the players. Since it is fantasy, tons of things can be implemented. So yes for all your modern PK'ers their will be guns. Along with gun blades, hand weapons, magic etc . . . In order to have the hand weapons balance out with the swords so it isn't un-even to have one or the other, the gun system will have to be rather unique. We have a good plan set up on how we will do it all, and some awesome ideas for the abilities that will come in play, along with spells for magic.
- Now the purpose wont be to make money and buy all these things. In fact we don't want much things to cost a lot on the server. So basically everyone can get them. But there still will be those rares not a lot of people have though. But any 'jobs' that people do, wont be the regular tap 1-2 buttons and you get some supplies to sell to a NPC. The job system has to be different from others, and will take a long process of thinking to get it exactly how the players will want it. Another thing that will be added to the game is leveling. We hope to have many tings you can level up, but not make it so boring that you can't stand leveling. We will add certain activities or maybe even quests that involve you to use a skill, and on completion, gives you XX amount of experience in that skill. Tons of things will be added, with many types of styles. Some things will seem more like a modern, RPG, or even classic styled server. Anything that is fun and within reason to be added, will be added to the server. Now I won't say much more about the server, as you will have to find out yourself some time. So lastly there will be a combo-melee system. You will be able to grapple, toss, and strike opponent in combos. We plan to have this very well done, and make it fun to play around with.

So in conclusion, Fantasy Life will have a mixture of different 'themes' put into it, but they will all blend into one. Not so much a different world for each theme, such as AEON. It will in fact, be very different from AEON. This will be all in one world, and will have a storyline worked out for it to fit its style.

Still fuzzy on some parts? Want to see your ideas of fun implemented into the server? Then discuss it here. Any help is much appreciated.

The server will keep posted with updates and all, so stay tuned. Thanks to all who read/participated in this thread.

Keep in mind - Fantasy Life is meant to be fun to develop along with playing. The staff are just having fun with this project, and not putting such a hassle on each other to keep it perfect or anything. It's a game! Let's have some fun.

When I read your post, I couldn't help but thinking "Mythic Legends". :whatever:

LoneAngelIbesu 09-21-2008 01:24 AM

Hm. Could you name the most unique aspect of this server, Angel?

Sorry if It came out that way

Hmm. If I had to name one thing, I would say that it will have several themes all blended into one. Not together as an all-in-one server. But more of you get to use guns along with magic and RPG styled melee weapons along with it. Plus the fact that leveling will be a great deal in the server. Leveling is what we really plan to make unique and very rewarding on if you level something to a particular level.

Well, setting doesn't make a game, so the most unique thing about Fantasy Life is the leveling. I don't mean to badger, but what makes it unique? Since Graal is an online game, I want to be able to make more than one character on your server, and not go through the same process with each character.

Also, when I saw "Fantasy Life", I immediately pictured a server centered around your character. Kind of like the Sims, where you control your character's life... but multi-player and not so self-centered. I got my hopes up. :frown:

DrakilorP2P 09-21-2008 01:43 AM

Seems like a lot of work for something that is supposed to be fun to develop.

Arch_Angel 09-21-2008 01:53 AM

Now your getting your hopes down for no reason. I can't really pick what our most unique thing about the server will be, since we have a lot of new ideas coming in every day. But yes, you will be able to create more than one char, and leveling will be diff by each char you make, making it (your character) a completely different 'life'.

Just because there is a lot going into it doesn't mean it won't be fun.

Reminds me of lego's and pokemon! O_O

Good luck! ^^

farte6 09-21-2008 02:26 AM

Im sorry to say this but your server looks very square boxy and plain. I think your a lot better than that.

James 09-21-2008 02:31 AM

Sounds pretty cool, good luck with it!

I like your tileset by the way.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gun Blades came up in one of your blog entries to be honest; you're not exactly at the height of originality yourself. Keep on snorting dude, perhaps something might go up there that will enable you to post something that hasn't already been posted in tons of other blogs around the internet.

I would. Final Fantasy VIII was the epitome of fail. I've been saying that for years. If there's one game not to borrow ideas from, it'd be that game.

My blog posts are not specifically written to present 'original' ideas. I write them to present different methods of structuring content and engines, rather than throwing content out onto the table. I've been asked to develop content for servers since starting my blog entries, but have declined in each instance because I don't feel like working for anyone. Similarly, I don't think it's wise for me to provide information on original content since a few people have wanted to completely copy content I come up with rather than taking those ideas and modifying them. I don't care about one person copying stuff entirely, but when multiple people do that, conflicts come up about one server 'stealing' ideas from another, and I'm not going to be blamed for that. I've been thinking of putting up disclaimers for it, but I doubt it would help.

That's YOUR opinion. In my opinion, it's the second best one ever. Most of the FFVIII haters usually end up admitting that they didn't play more then 5-30 minutes, or never played more then past disc one. I'd appreciate it if you would keep your insults to yourself.

To be fair, you're the one that insulted him. Draenin was just making fun of the weapon, not Angel. You told him that his ideas were unoriginal and that he was copying from other people...

I couldn't care less about your opinion for another game, it's irrelevant. However, according to Wikipedia the said game received rave reviews in many popular publications, so I mean disregarding what you think, it couldn't have been all that bad.

I think your head is far too up your own ass to be quite honest. You're posting long-winded and obnoxious structures that are generally common sense in the development community; I don't really see how they're different methods at all. Disclaimers on server ideas has got to be the funniest thing I've read in a long time. I'd actually love to hear some of your "original" ideas, because chances are somewhere (or everywhere, lol) they've been done before, or do you mean original to Graal?

If your blog is only acting as a resource of reworded copypasta then I don't really see the point in it, but maybe that's just me.

I've played through the entire game and still recognize it as one of the worst ever created. Let's not talk about where Mythic Legends could go if you really care about FFVIII's engine all that much. ;)

Who cares about your opinion of my opinion? We can go all day, bud. Regardless of whether anyone on the internets supports your boner for the game, it still doesn't change the fact that you're copying a weapon that was specifically invented for FFVIII. It'd be like putting 'Materia' into your server.

It's fine if you think that, but they are, by all standards, structuring methods. You may have heard of a lot of them before. That's great. Sure, some stuff is obvious to you, but it might not be obvious to someone else who hasn't been at it as long, or even to people who've never seen anything like it before.

Original to Graal. And truth be told, not all of it will be. Some of it may have been done before, but I like to see what direction I can take it in. When designing systems and content for an MMO, it's rarely going to be the case where you break ground on completely 'different' stuff. It almost never happens. What my goal is by writing is simply to run through a lot of different ways to design things, regardless of whether they've been done before.

Far from it. What I write comes from my own thoughts and experiences with independent designing. I know it's a bit long, but you also don't have to read it. Won't stop me from writing, though.

Clockwork 09-21-2008 04:36 AM

ff tactics was great, ff7 was playable, ff8 was great, ff9 was best, ff10 sorta was ok, ff10-2 sorta sucked, ff12 was okay but killed it, ff13 has high hopes from me.

Do you honestly believe that the way you're your "structuring methods" are aimed towards those that may not find them obvious? You're not exactly conveying them in a way that would be best suited to that audience.

I wasn't aware of the server with gunblades on Graal.

Seen it all before.

Stop being so petty. ^^

thesmoothcriminal 09-21-2008 05:54 AM

Yea anyway back on topic.
I dont really get what this server is about other then it has a mixed theme. I think you need some more structure/planning before buying a playerworld.

also ff8 rocked noob

Gosh, you'r a FF nolife ^^
Only played a few tho

But to get back to the thread, yeah I'd like to help
This server seems to come with really great ideas, and the graphics are unique
colored modern tiles is always funny, and as for now, it's the modern server I love the most (not completely modern I know, but for the modern way, yup I do like it.)

That's what ticked me off. Maybe it was uncalled for, maybe it wasn't, I don't care - remarks like that can gtfo in my opinion though. If you're gonna bash something, bring valid points to the table or don't do it at all.

Crono 09-21-2008 12:21 PM

Chrono Trigger > Final Fantasy

Server sounds ok, it's hard to be original these days. The trick is to to have a higher mixture of quality than originality, but that's just my opinion.

I agree.

Codein 09-21-2008 01:16 PM

Looking nice man. I'd suggest getting some stone paths in there :)

Arch_Angel 09-21-2008 04:31 PM

Working on it Codein :)
I'm hoping to add a good bit to the tileset today when I get back from breakfast. Also, expect major updates system wise as the days go by, along with graphics.
Please try to stay on topic best you can, I understand arguments tend to strike out though, but try to keep it at a minimum. please.

Don't worry, I promise you it'll get a lot better.

DarkRenji 09-21-2008 06:17 PM

I saw "Gunblades" and laughed :D

Sounds pretty cool

Arch_Angel 09-21-2008 06:19 PM

Yea gun blade have not been discussed on how they will even be made, or even I they will be 100% made. It was just an idea thrown out there to make it seem like a more unique Idea on the server.

DarkRenji 09-21-2008 06:33 PM

I think the gunblade sounds sexy xD I've never seen on on grawl before ;P

BonzaiXxXSRStudios 09-21-2008 07:20 PM

Nice idea Arch..it takes alot these days for someone to jump outside the box..and you are well on your way to finding a great game. Good luck.

thesmoothcriminal 09-21-2008 08:02 PM

well u obviously want to be original so using the gunblade is a no no. What about some kind of Bladegun?

Sorry, but I'm not going to talk down to my readers. I expect my readers to make sense of the material and either make use of it in their own ways or simply not utilize it at all. Either way doesn't matter to me.

Arch_Angel 09-22-2008 03:59 AM

Drae, when/where did I say that o_o ?
I'm so confused haha.

Thanks Bonzai, means a lot :D

Okay so I have one of several way we can do PvP on the GMap.. I want YOU, the people of Graal, to decide what you would like to see. Here's what I've come up with:

a) PvP on GMap will be only for people who choose to be flagged in battle mode (Basically GK's method)

b) You can choose to be PvP or not, but once you are flagged as PvP you cannot get off of flag until a certain time wait.. Also, if you hit somebody will in Non-PvP, you get flagged to PvP and can't turn it off until XX amount of minutes.. (Almost like WoW style)

c) Whole server is PvP all the time. *maybe certain areas that aren't PvP areas)

d) Your opinion / idea that isn't like those stated above.

Draenin 09-22-2008 04:02 AM

It'd be nice to be able to turn PvP on and off for individual players, but definitely go with the timing system so people don't use it like kids on Classic do with pausing.

Arch_Angel 09-22-2008 04:11 AM

Yea if its able to be turned on/off it'll have like a 5 minute timer where you cant PvP for 5 mins to turn it off.

Draenin 09-22-2008 04:24 AM

I would go with ten, but it all depends on how clustered and intense the fights get on there.
