No Client/RC (OMG TE WRLD WEL ESPLOAD!)

Yeah so I got a virus on my [old and crappy] family computer that destroyed most of it.
I ran a virus scan on Safe Mode but a bunch of stuff was already changed.

Sooooo I have to wait for my dad to get back and take it into Best Buy's Geek Squad.
Either they're going to try to restore it or if they can't I'm getting a new computer, who knows. And the good thing is it won't have all the crap it used to if its a new one and'll run so much better, and it might also be my own for once! (:D)

But yeah. Never use Dotnxt.
LESSON LEARNED!

So I'm not gonna be able to go on Clients/RCs and possibly not the forums too much.

And Stefan, if I have a new computer or CPID/IP, you better freaking change my IP Ranges this time! !pissed!

Yay!

kia345 08-28-2008 12:48 AM

You mean you came back from the last "I quit" thread?

Yah.

Geek Squad = Goodbye money that could have been saved. There are other options you should consider and explore. Hard Drive External Enclosure, backup what you need then format it, etc.

cbk1994 08-28-2008 01:30 AM

Don't take it to Geek Squad. They charge way too much and don't do a very good job.

OasaTor_PK 08-28-2008 02:48 AM

Geek squad is a waste of money, just get a friend who is smart with computers to reformat your PC and you will buy him lunch or something.

I fix my buddies computers all the time and all I ask for is a chicken carbonara from Quiznos.

Switch 08-28-2008 07:50 PM

Haha.
Yeah but we can't even install my AntiVirus, after we've done a Recovery, so we can't do anything.
And we don't know any geeks in my area :[ I believe I'm like the only one, just no one (if they are) shows it...

But yeah my dad did a Recovery. Took about 2 hours to accomplish that. And THEN we find out we can't install AntiVirus and all.

I'm going with him to Best Buy for a Wii game and he's gonna talk to the GS.

So yeah. Dunno what's gonna happen x_x

Just format your hard drive and then reinstall Windows fresh? It's not rocket science you know. x_x

I agree. It's not too hard. The Windows installer basically holds your hand during the process.

Unless the data on it is vital to the financial survival of the household.

I know.
My dad doesn't want to do that though :\
And also, IDK how to format it, though I know what it is xD

Oinkness 08-29-2008 03:29 AM

I wiped the poop out of this laptop when it got a virus, and then I decided to also put XP on it which was really a challenge since it was designed for Vista. I had to find XP versions of plugins that would work on it. :D

Nataxo 08-29-2008 03:41 AM

"best buy geek squad" is it really called like that?=P

Oinkness 08-29-2008 07:16 AM

Forget the Geek Squad, try Nerd herd or Firedog. :D

Tigairius 08-29-2008 08:49 AM

Buy me a couple of those new southern style chicken sandwiches at mcdonalds and I'll fix your computer for you  Double cheeseburgers work too, or chicken mcnuggets, the fish filets aren't bad either. Actually, if you buy me anything from any fast food place I'll fix your computer for you.

Oinkness 08-29-2008 10:03 AM

Bacon Chicken burger at Burger King >> mcdonalds chicken sangwich

TSAdmin 08-29-2008 11:19 AM

I was thinking about that after I got the virus and woulda said "I took it outside for some fresh air and a giant branch fell off it," but we all know parents aren't that stupid...

I need my own computer !pissed! this family-computer stuff even though everyone else in my family already has their own is driving me CRAZY!

Crow 08-29-2008 06:37 PM

If everybody has a computer, why don't you just claim the family one as your own?

I tried that.
Didn't work too well...

Oh and, I can get on Client now...
Not gonna bother with RC though if my IP/CPID has changed...

So yay I guess...
But later I'm probably not gonna be able to.

NOW TELL ME HOW TO REFORMAT MY COMPUTER !pissed!

Run cfdisk and recreate the partitions.

If you want to thoroughly nil the disk surface, use this:
PHP Code:

dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda

Change /dev/hda to whatever the drive is called.

In the terminal, both of them. You'd presumably be running a GNU rescue floppy/USB at the time though.

Codein 08-30-2008 12:20 AM

As I said, just run the Windows Installer disk, and it should take you right through formatting and installing :P

Oh, I know what it's like. When I was your age, anything I needed on my PC had to be approved by my parents, lol. They'd even ground me for getting viruses.
