thread deletion & repp'd post within it

it would be nice if when a thread was deleted, if you have a repp'd post within it the rep would go away since the post no longer exists.

Tigairius 08-18-2008 05:29 PM

Sort of agree, sort of don't.

Regardless of if the thread was deleted or not, you still did something that upset someone enough to negative rep you, and it should remain there.

On the other hand...

The thread doesn't exist and the reps as a result of actions within the thread should be less consequential.

Darlene159 08-18-2008 05:29 PM

Why? It doesnt change the fact that the post was made.

Elizabeth 08-18-2008 05:32 PM

the fact that the post doesnt exist anymore means that the rep shouldnt exist.

I sort of agree with Darlene here.

Elizabeth 08-18-2008 05:38 PM

but with the fact that the post doesnt exist anymore, it means that the rep shouldnt exist. if theres no post to rep, then theres no rep.

Rufus 08-18-2008 05:38 PM

I'm not sure if there is an option to change this anyway. Before the upgrade the reputations used to disappear, but your points amount would still be the same, now they just display a N/A.

But, the post WAS there to be repped, when it was, so the rep should remain.

That's like saying, if I shoot a guy and he dies, he no longer exists - just an empty body (reference to deleted post), meaning I didn't commit a crime.

Elizabeth 08-18-2008 05:41 PM

i guess so.

DustyPorViva 08-18-2008 05:49 PM

Darlene, I'd do something about that ginger neg rep!

No, because I've gotten pos rep for deleted posts.
What's really unfair, is when a mod both deletes a post, and neg reps you (damn, the rep rules really don't apply to you mods, huh?).

I think it should stay.

Either way you still said what you said and someone liked/disliked it.

You don't think someone getting negged solely for being ginger(which is derogatory) is wrong in any way?

Then it's up to that account to report it.

pooper200000 08-18-2008 09:29 PM

If someone gives you reputation on a post and you delete the post, the reputation is removed I believe. I haven't had a chance to test that in a while. Go ahead if you want to test it.. although I do hate negative reputation
I think if you are given negative or positive reputation for a post, while you can still edit/delete the post, the option to edit/delete the post should be disabled. That is just me though, sorry for the random blurb.

Elizabeth 08-18-2008 09:42 PM

...you can report repps?

Yes, using forum PMs to the forum admins.

Correct, we can check who did it. Negative rep is one thing, insulting someone another.

Elizabeth 08-18-2008 09:51 PM

it actually doesnt bother me

It is up to other members to decide who they give reps to and why. Giving a positive rep is like saying thanks, whereas if you give a negative rep you should always leave an explanatory comment. If you believe you received a genuinely unfair (or accidental) negative rep you should send a personal message to an Admin and it will be investigated.

Elizabeth 08-19-2008 04:44 PM

k. i just got another negative rep saying ginger.

brb reporting

Exhausted 08-20-2008 04:37 PM

People should keep giving me negative reputation until I have -1337, as I am the polar opposite of 1337.

Elizabeth 08-20-2008 07:41 PM

i would but ive GIVEN OUT TO MUCH REP IN THE PAST 24 HOURS

Exhausted 08-20-2008 07:56 PM

I would rally my brothers and sisters (you people) to get me -1337 rep points, but then someone would be a ********* and rep me again, ruining it ;[

Although it's an unfortunate shame I'll never be able to show how idiotic the above person was, the rep should stay because either way I insulted/bothered/ticked off someone with my statements.

Also:
Yes, there is always a need for blunt sarcasm.
