Ideas and Concepts Sub Forum

Can you add a subforum to the PlayerWorlds Main Forum dedicated to concepts and ideas. All to often I hear of people with great ideas for servers, but they often don't have the drive to make them theirselves, or haven't got the ability or resources to persue it. A forum where people can discuss some new ideas might allow for some interesting new servers, and those who do have the resources and abilities could take on some of the concepts or ideas that are discussed.

Ideas and Concepts - Have a new idea for a server? Discuss it here.

Yes please!

Concepts and ideas are not part of development!!!

I didn't say stick it in the development forum, so that's okay.

Well obviously it's not part of playerwords, either.

That answered my question.

DrakilorP2P 08-11-2008 06:02 PM

My ideas are worth quite some amount of cash, why would I want to hand them out for people to steal?

Don't post them then, I'm sure it won't be that much of a loss. In fact, you can't lose something you never had, so it wont be a loss at all!

I was joking, what I meant are ideas and concepts aren't something you see too much 'round these here parts.

Very serious.

edit: well, not to detail my good friend Rufus' thread, I'll comment on it seriously. I dunno! I mean, I don't find a post in the playerworld section about ideas too out of place... and they're already pretty damn dead. Do we need another subforum that probably will never be used? I mean, it'd probably be a good idea in an active environment, but around here, I see it going to waste, sadly. On the other hand, having a subforum for ideas and concepts may just encourage people to actually post ideas and concepts... So I go with my original deduction -- I dunno!

What do you mean? They're my ideas, I came up with them. It would be theft for someone to use them without my explicit permission. x_x

I see people posting threads in the Playerworlds section all of the time, good ideas and the author knows they're never going to take off. People feel as though when someone posts something in the main thread, they're claiming some form of right over it. I did a search in the Playerworlds Main Forum for all threads with the title "idea" in it, and there's four pages.

Perhaps we can start getting some good servers in development rather than the same direction, different owner?

We wouldn't know nor care if you didn't post them though :D

I didn't say ideas weren't frequent, but that the section itself is pretty dead. PW section gets like one thread a whole week... if that. Maybe 1/4 of those are for ideas. How much activity could a subforum with a similar interest of the main section get? Like I said, I'm pretty on the line about it... it could just be a big flop, or it could actually encourage ideas.

Inverness 08-11-2008 06:40 PM

Having a box full of many ideas can be a good source of inspiration.

Loriel 08-11-2008 07:05 PM

This idea will only work with strict moderation to delete all the "would it not be cool if..." threads.

Door 08-11-2008 07:09 PM

What's wrong with having a bunch of those? People already come up with tons now and throw them around in inappropriate areas. How the heck could making a sub-forum to consolidate them make things worse?

Loriel 08-11-2008 07:10 PM

Well it is going to encourage people to spam up my "New Posts" search with lots of threads that are not worth anyone's time?

I second this because it's normally way too flooded to browse without skipping large portions of it.

I have one of these next to my bed, where I put in notes with rough ideas from my dream(s) every morning.

And every other subforum doesn't do that already?

Most of them do, but that is no reason to make it worse.

James 08-13-2008 03:01 AM

I approve.

pooper200000 08-13-2008 05:55 PM

I could see this being very positive as a source for playerworlds.

Then the forums themselves are a waste, why not just do away with them entirely? I for one enjoy reading the new posts. Seeing as, if there weren't any "spammed up new posts" there wouldn't be any threads worth reading.

That's the kind of thing I'd do, lol. No joke. totally srs.

Because that is not what this thread is about?

I enjoy reading the new posts with actual content. If people are motivated to spam more (meaning content-less posting, not whatever else), it will make it harder to find the interesting posts.

How do you define what is and isn't quality content?

"Am I making a post which is either funny, informative, or interesting on any level?" "Does my reply offer any significant advice or help contribute to the conversation in any fashion?"

(I already suggested at some point that people be allowed to filter what appears in the New Post search by declaring forums they are not interested in, but apparently that is not viable.)

So in your idea forum, possible threads are started with copy/pasted post "A", "B", or "C", and possible replies to the original (unoriginal) post are copy/pasted post "X", "Y", or "Z"?

Sorry, these forums (read: the internet) aren't that serious that every conversation needs to be srsly educated and, well, serious. If you want those conversations, go hand out with men in suits.

Way to completely miss the point.

Way to completely fail at making the point. The second part of my post was directed toward the second part of yours, I just didn't quote it.

You are still talking about something entire unrelated

kia345 08-13-2008 08:05 PM

Then elaborate. I'm stupid and don't know what we're talking about.

I just use a notebook, but yours is obviously more creative. :)

Too bad you can't take that with you to school.

Rufus 09-04-2008 06:59 PM

Still want.
