Tileset
1 Attachment(s)
Tileset I've been working on during my free time. The bridge isn't complete yet and I'm not happy with the troughs of grass, so I'll probably redo them.
It is pics1 format. edit: fixed the thick grass |
Nice, I like it :)
|
Grass is lolew indeed, however everything else is very nice, as expected :p
|
Everything looks great. The roofs remind me of Super Mario for some reason. Of course, at 2:30 in the am, things don't seem to make sense anymore for me :D
|
Holy ****. Thats so awesome, especially the grass. The small areas where the other grass tiles where placed in that screen look so cool :D
And it reminds me alot of LttP of course :] Good job so far. |
if you want a detailed tileset then make a detailed one but not mixed...
like, the tree is by FAR not as detailed as the thing above the door, also, the lines are too thin...maybe this isnt done but good luck x) |
Not bad, nice feel to it.
|
No new tiles yet, but I have been working on a GUI that I think would be nice to go along with the tileset:
http://img338.imageshack.us/img338/184/newguiir1.png edit: the yellow circle on the right is a sun. The icon changes to a moon at night, showing the current phase. edit II: the keys only show up when you have some... so most of the time you won't even see that bar. |
Wow, I really really like that GUI.
|
It's better than the normal GUI. For sure!
|
Holy ****ing **** that GUI is kickass
|
Thats awesome.
|
Awesome, like others said. Though, I can't say I like the sun graphic.
|
I am not liking the GUI that much actually. Usually I like simplicity but this is to simple for me lol
|
I tried to do a more 'sun-like' graphic for it... you know, pointy sides and all, but I found it very hard to do at that size.
|
Hm, I don't care for the tileset. But I fell in love with the GUI
Good Job! |
Wow Nice GUI, very simple but very cool !
It isnt taking that much place on the window and it's easy to see all the features it has ! I also like the GFX for the bomb and the arrow, the gralat is from zelda and greatly remade ^^ |

I realized I didn't have your currently equipped items displayed... this was a mind boggler as I didn't know how to display them without breaking the simplicity and taking up too much space. So I came up with this... I'm pretty happy with it, but if anyone else has any ideas please share.
http://img361.imageshack.us/img361/839/newguiwy2.png Tidbits: I'm in love with this gui. Also, I should mention that it fades away after a few seconds if you don't do anything(time doesn't disappear, always on display). |
Just took a look at it, you should make it so it appears with mouseover or a movement
Also rounded corners not showing for me? I'm on Mac OS X. |
The background is using images for the edges, and a poly for the body. So if the edges aren't showing it might be an image bug with the Mac client.
I certainly don't want to show it with a mouseover as there really shouldn't be a need to use your mouse. As for movement... this is something I pondered. The stuff that's hiding is really only vital while fighting and such, so it shows when you press either A/S/D. I didn't really find a reason to show it while moving. |
I think an option would be best; I would always want it to display, personally.
I agree it is nice to be able to turn it off at times since it is a bit bulky (takes up space) though it's better than most. Also, perhaps you could put the selected weapon in the bottom left of the screen? |
I definitely would allow an option.
As for bottom left screen, I dunno. Because of the size of the GUI as a whole, I don't think it's justified really to disjoint any of the elements to separate corners of the screen. |
Might be better to make the rounded corners dynamically with a polygon? then you could set the radius, curve length, etc.
|
That would require a multitude of polygons for each corner, and there would also be no smoothing(AA) on them which would kill a lot of the smoothness of the GUI. I honestly don't see the benefit of scripting the edges.

New cliff tiles I started on a few days ago. Just did the cave. Just for note, they are based on the pics1 format for cliffs and so far(what I have) tiles perfectly. Of course, it's only front... I'm having an impossible time doing the diagonals... or any other side for that matter. It really saddens me because I really like these and would love to finish them for this tileset :( edit: changed the picture to show something involving different tilings |
Weird
But nice! |

Try resizing it a bit like this, think it might look better.
|
Even though I like the way that looks, sadly I don't think I'd be able to fit anything nice looking like that in the default cliff format.
|
I like the larger version as well. Looks much more cliff-like.
|
The cliffs look too repetitive to me.
You know what would be neat? Cliffs like Seiken Densetsu 3's in the forest area at the beginning of the game, I love the busy feel it gives, but I don't know those don't really fit the classic-like style you are using. |
I cleaned up the cliffs:
http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/3775/newcaveoq2.png I haven't fixed the cave yet. As for being repetitive... I think it tiles greatly, and you have to remember, right now it's just the front, when(or if) I finish them, they will tile just like Graal's cliffs, thus would eliminate any repetitive issues. I don't think I'd be able to fit SD3 style tiles in here... and I don't really want to. |
Yeah it does tile correctly, but when looking at it each rock looks almost the same as the others. Maybe you could have some bigger rocks and some smaller ones?
As for the SD3 style of tiles I just felt like posting what was on my mind, lol. |

It's not that bad, but your example image is poorly chosen. They're sort of high contrast - so putting a screen full of them makes them appear more repetitive than they may actually appear under normal circumstances.
|
The big cliff tiles seem good for a "serious game" and the smaller ones seem better for a "casual game".
I don't know what any of that means, but let me put it this way: Big cliff tiles remind me of GK, and small ones remind me of legos. Edit: I don't think either is better than the other, but each one has an appropriate setting. If anything, the setting for the "smaller tiles" would be in a game that makes me smile more, maybe with nice music and stuff. I still fail at explaining the difference, but it shouldn't be that important. And I probably don't even know what I'm talking about anyways. |
Well, I honestly don't know what to do about the contrast issue. Like I said though, I've been working on that cliff for a few days and I'm out of ideas and patience. I still haven't even come close to figuring out how to get the diagonals/side views down. I'm done with them for now.
http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/8...nehousetr7.png I started redoing this bit. At first I was going to do vines and hope they looked cool. They didn't. So I stuck with an ol' cobblestone wall. I don't know exactly what to do with the roof though... maybe some sort of tent if room permits. |
