Easy Idea to get the player count up - staff have a look!-

As you all know GK’s player count has been poor for what seems to be an eternity. I think I have a somewhat simple solution to this problem, but first let me start off by telling you about a past event. Ok now a few years back GK was available for free for a short few mouths, “well free as you did not need gold to play but only classic”. Any ways the player count back at this time was about an average of 75-125 a night, a lot better thin our current average of 10-20. So here’s what I suggest, we should just permanently make GK a classic server. Now think to yourself why other then the player count going up should we do this? Well why do a lot of people quit playing GK other then lack of new content? It’s because people don’t want to keep paying for a game that no one plays. Ok now I bet your wondering what about the people who already pay to play GK, well here’s my next idea. We have a grate in game store system why not put that baby to better use. First off for the people who paid for GK time we turn their left over hours into Gelats, to be used in the store. Why do this you ask? With GK now a classic server I’m sure people would still like to see it make some money. So keeping the in game store in mind we start putting more stuff in that store of ours. Things such as house improvement scrolls, EA’s, EW’s, IWD’s, armors, weapons, rings amulets and so on. Now as an extra incentive to get people to spend money we slowly add items to the store to get people to shell out the cash to want to buy them. Not only that but around holiday time we can add in holiday items that can only be obtained for a limited time, which would also give people an incentive to want to spend some cash. Well now that’s about all of my idea in a nut shell, I hope staff will consider my idea and I hope that it may take effect.
Thank you

I stopped reading after "we should just permanently make GK a classic server."

DustyPorViva 04-08-2008 03:10 AM

I wonder if Stefan making gold servers free for like selected weekends would bring in any players... not every weekend, but whenever he feels like it. Maybe holidays or such.

kia345 04-08-2008 03:17 AM

You'd think if it were that "easy" to improve the server, it would've been done.

Also, what you're suggest will break Gk. Sure we'll get players, but now you're making the exact thing we frown upon: Buying skill. Maybe you're fine spending $50 on an amulet, but the decent side of Gk would rather every single item obtainable through game play rather than shelling out more money. The way it currently is, it's pay for access to Gk, get items yourself. you want us to play Gk for free, but pay for items?

Yay, staff-supported USDing!

I would probly follow and leave as USDing is cheating which makes the game no fun :frown:.

I might add that you cant buy any item from the store just what ever staff wants to put up besides we already do this updating your account to get x-mas items is the same thing were just taking out the part where you get moretime and just leaving the items. come on people really think about this dont just make a quick desision.

Obs311 04-08-2008 04:23 AM

do it

I have enough problems with the X-mas pack coming with dias. You don't go selling benefits on an RP server.

we already do and so do alot of other successful games I dont think I can say the name of other net games on here or I would some thing to do with the fourm policy I think

kia345 04-08-2008 04:40 AM

A lot of "successful games" includes only grinding games. There is nothing to do except achieve a higher level. Gk is not that kind of game, or at least it's not meant to be.

kia345 04-08-2008 04:50 AM

How many of those games are RP? None of those games are comparable to Graal Kingdoms in terms of genre.

This has been tried before by other gold servers. It has never worked. Ever.

yes it was around 04 x-mas time I think ask around some you will see

Noobie8205 04-08-2008 04:54 AM

Everyone is killing this idea yet look at MapleStory.. the game is completely free and I bet you they make 20x as much money as Graal off this same concept.. Give people that are willing to spend additional money a little extra! Though they're not giving players items to make them better than anyone else, only luxury items. People like "flashy pretty things" MapleStory alone proves that.. Though I doubt this could ever happen because that would actually require a steady stream of development by staff on a constant basis.. not only on holidays.. When I say "staff" I mean actual paid staff I would never expect players to develop things like this.

Games like MapleStory, Neopets, etc. can afford to let a lot of players play for free and only make money off of advertising or a selling things to a few players because the cost per player is far lower than on Graal because Graal uses more bandwidth/server resources.

If Graal doesn't make enough money per player to cover the costs each player imposes, then having more players just means losing more money.

xAzerothx 04-08-2008 05:18 AM

They make money from all the gelat items on Zone. :D

see good way for them to make more money with GK then from this idea

Tigairius 04-08-2008 05:47 AM

No. If anything moving it to classic should be a last resort, we're not on a last resort yet, and I doubt we'll ever be.

Eranian 04-08-2008 10:15 AM

Nobody actually plays GK.

I bet you could just delete all the content and replace it with a single screen that has a single number on it, and then give people the option to increase their number by 1 for $1, and all the people that currently 'play' there would still update their subscription every month.

"My number is higher, I win".

Seriously though, delete it.

The point of items in Gk was leveling up to get better things. Zone never took anything special to obtain newer, better weapons. Better things on Gk come from things like alchemy and events, or leveling up to add IWDs, things you have to work for.

Look at Zodiac, with its bordering 100 people. They're not having anyone pay for items.

I'd much rather just delete Era. Maybe that would get rid of half of the filth on Graal.

I wish they'd try this, and as well general free days. The lack of experiment frustrates me.

I appreciated the Colgate toothpaste adverts that I'd see every now and then. Very relevant to the 14 year old gamer.

I don't think moving it to classic is a good solution. GK will just end up like g2k1 after a few weeks with lots of players.

Quoted for truth. I don't think any of the dedicated staff on GK are ready to give up on it yet.

kia345 04-08-2008 10:25 PM

I could see promotional offers that would allow people access to Gk.

I suggest bringing back the entire trial island, or adding more to this smaller one. Give them unlimited access to that island. Give them a large sea gmap to sail on. But they're limited to that island, with no access to quests, higher level dungeons, or rarer items. The new island could have dungeons to slowly grind to 15, have small shops and blacksmiths that craft only weak weapons. That could be enough to entice them to upgrade and see the real Gk.

Rufus 04-08-2008 10:29 PM

Promotional offers to play on a server that holds little interest to the vast majority of the current playerbase would prove little to no change in the current state of Kingdoms. I don't see the logic in a few free days, when if players were that curious they'd just log on as a trial.

The whole gold/playerworld server categories seem to be a problem and in my opinion they're very dated now. The server list would probably appear better if it was split into "Official Servers" and "Playerworlds" rather than the confusing system we have now. The two current servers are just not worth the extra money, and possibly never will be. If Classic staff bucked their ideas up, or was taken over by someone with a little more talent, that could get moved under the official title too, as should Graal2001/Bomy Island when it is released as that's what they always were.

If you take a look at other games on the market, you always have official projects split from the player-made projects, and the official projects usually gain more players because they're official -- that, and they're usually better made than the unofficial projects of course. Gold simply isn't worth paying for these days, because the gold servers are dead and kind of suck. If the server list was split a little more professionally, and the "gold" subscription was changed or maybe even removed for that matter, then perhaps the official projects would get more players. Of course, the official worlds would need some serious fixing up though, I just feel as though as it stands the server list setup isn't working in general.
