Fix the Food System

The food system seriously needs some tweaking

Recently, I was battling with someone, and the battle took so long that my food meter went to 0. He was able to kill me, but I returned with my food meter filled to 999. Again, it quickly went to 0 before anyone was near close to dying (we were pretty evenly matched, so the it took a while, but still was only a matter of minutess)

My point is: This means this game is poorly designed in the fact that you have to use specific equipment to have a normally-expected battle experience.

I can't think of any other better explanation.
I have to use amulet of sustenance instead of Demon Stone if I wish to be able normally regen my HP during battle. That means I have to sacrifice a whole 2 str which could possibly slow me down and also decrease my damage and wc (which, in some cases, can decide the whole battle).

Edit: Also, the only items effecting my food-meter are dual Rings of War. They speed it up. But why should the standard battle-item make it so my food meter drops to 0? Then what's the point of the "regen" and "con" bonus x.x

Worship Bile like the rest of the server.

Then that makes all the other gods useless.

Why should one feature take away from another?

CABAL49 02-27-2008 03:55 AM

You mean like altering the food system in the first place?

Xterminator 02-27-2008 04:26 AM

I agree with this..

Dumb way to address the problem.

As for making Bile useless... how would it? If he still has the added bonus, it'll still help... it just won't be the only way to avoid the problem.

Ravenblade1979 02-27-2008 07:29 AM

Yeah thats a good idea...get rid of bile and have everyone rely on amulet of sustenance....great idea *insert sarcasm here*

I was not serious, but it is what most of the server does considering the insane amount of food loss. Until the food system is changed to a more reasonable system of food loss, then I am sticking with Bile.

Darklux 02-28-2008 12:15 AM

You likely either wear ring of wars or a dragon amulet.
Those make you regenerate faster, but consume more food.
Thats your own decision :O you dont have to use rof, roc, ros row if you don't want that.

=> There is nothing broken => There is nothing to fix.

No, did it wrong, you already inserted the sarcasm.

@Darklux: It wasn't always like this, we could go 10 minutes without refilling the food bar, yes there is something to fix.

I don't have any of those, and I drain food really fast. It sounds like your logic is broken.

Come on, if so much of the server follows Bile simply so they don't have to eat every minute, doesn't that strike you as something being wrong?

I think it was made this way so Misty Mug Tavern and bile would be used the most. I for one am glad of bile but find it suck because i want to bless ogma.

Golden Rule: Read--->Think--->Post

Apparently, you failed somewhere near the beginning; I already said which equipment is effecting my food meter.

What's the point of regenning faster if I can't regen at all (because my food bar is normally at 0, and the best thing I can do is eat my way up to 999 before a battle)

Again, read what I'm saying.
I dont HAVE to use those rings, but they're the standard battle-rings. Yet their regen feature is ultimately making it so I can't regen at all. The only reasonable solutions I see are using amulet of sustenance or praying to bile, or MAYBE using dual rings of halloween (but that's still a ****ty solution). The only "good" solution I see is using a Ghost Pirate Amulet, but that's so unreasonable, people have claimed it being the "rarest/best item in the game".

I pitty your judgement if you cannot see a broken-system within the fact that we only have these options:
1) Pray to bile (no choice for god)
2) Use amulet of sustence (no choice for amulet)
3) Don't use battle rings for battling (even an idiot can see the problem behind this without an explanation)

Tigairius 02-28-2008 06:06 AM

I agree that the food drain needs to be slowed down a bit.

Sam 02-28-2008 10:18 AM

Nobody says that there is a balance between "battle" and "peace" items. If you are fighting, you need power and so energy and resources. That means, you need more food as normal.

I think the best is to slow down food consumption, while you not in action and speed it up as much as you in action.
Also should a barbarian need more food than a priest.

Classes are meaningless. No point in giving one an advantage by now.

There's a lot of things "nobody says" but we still take for granted.
Why should this be any different?

But the system implies its intention is for us to be constantly regenning during "battle".
It's not so much a balance between "battle" and "peace" items, but it's moreso the fact that a single stat is counter-acting itself.

Let me explain again:
1. Regen is supposed to speed up my healing, with some food sacrifice
2. In reality, regen's main effect is sacrificing my food, while giving me some healing. (Edit: This is where I should make it clear that the "regeneration" stat on 2 Rings of War kills my food too quickly even if i'm NOT battling.)
3. Regen becomes useless QUICKLY during a battle after my food meter is drained.

Conclusion: The system used to work better before. Change it back.

This would make sense if my food was being drained only because of battle. However, it's also being drained quickly when I'm NOT battling, and I'm simply casually walking around. It's slower, but it's still fast enough that I usually find myself at 0 because it's pointless to keep eating.

This is a terrible idea. I can tell you why, but I'll only be repeating myself.

Ravenblade1979 02-28-2008 07:38 PM

So you want them to basically bile the whole server cept in battle where the food consumption would speed up again?

This reminds me of Final Fantasy and Dark Cloud.

You see in any Final Fantasy game you didn't need to drink water or fix tools but when you play dark cloud you find that you need to keep yourself hydrated and your weapons repaired. Granted at first I didn't like this but got so used to doing it that it became second nature to me while playing it.

This isn't much difference...your wanting to take the Dark Cloud aspect and try to turn it into the Final Fantasy aspect.

DustyPorViva 02-28-2008 08:49 PM

No, they want to take the Dark Cloud aspect of fixing weapons and turn it into a Dark Cloud 2 aspect. See what I did there? Weapon management in Dark Cloud was broken, they fixed it in Dark Cloud 2. That's what needs to be done here... no one is trying to eliminate it.

The food system is not broken so it can't be fixed, it can be changed to suit the server better but it's not broken because it was changed like this for a reason.

But I do agree it needs to be changed to like it was before when it didn't go down as much as it does now.
